I knew it! All bark!
Probably actually is a nice guy caught in a web of more than intended.
Good chance he'll be back one day as a nice guy and regular customer.

You doing the book or the movie deal first?

Glad to hear it came out good in the end. Did he give any reason why it took so long? Not that it really matters.

Also, I think you said earlier that you would deliver the tractor. Are you still going to do that for him?

I'd treat him let any other good customer and allow him to save face.
Maybe see if he has an owner's manual, offer to explain maintenance or whatever and be a humble and self-effacing kind of guy.
Probably give him a hat. But that's just me and you already know this stuff.

My business was a different kind but I turned around a number of these things into excellent and mutually benefically business relationships.

Good deal , I had a man tell me once , " over half the things you worry about never happen " , I think he was right .

My dad always told me "Worry is a wasted emotion". Do something to correct the problem if you can and move on to something else.

Sometimes that's easier said than done, but I think that's what Mr. Smith did....

Sound advice right there. I have a friend who is an expert at making friends out of enemies. He does it with sincerity and a good intentions, really wanting them as friends. I'm not an expert at it but I have learned a lot from him. Funny what a man can do when he has the want to. From everything I've read about the OP, I think he's the kind of man that makes friends out of enemies (good customers out of bad, etc.).

Now that it's fixed and running properly, it would be interesting to know if he trades it off for a Deere like he threatened.

I'd give 99% odds it ain't gonna happen.
Best news for the customer is that the dealer is a nice guy.
Client--tractor owner---knows that...

Don't worry about the future. Or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubble gum.

Well i think he knows i went as far as i could with the help and repair. As far as him coming in and buying something else i would welcome him with a hand shake. Ive learned over the years every customer you run off is money out of your pocket (even tho sometimes that is better). I dont dislike the guy for trying to get alittle more help with the price and can understand his anger.

It seems a shame that this guy doesn't know how great of a dealer he was dealing with. If it is not too moch trouble I would keep an eye on the JD dealer and see if he actually trades it off or not.

As much as I have enjoyed this on going saga, I am glad it is over- with one exception:

WHAT ARE WE GOING TO TALK ABOUT NOW?!?!?! :confused3:

Come-on Guys, Next issue is the BBQ! Possibly the last chapter in the book deal! JLS is flush with cash, and Lord knows the beers been chillin' long enough!

Nice Job JLS! Now you can move on, although, after reading about your character traits, you never stopped moving at all.........~Scotty

Well done on a good ending.

So the next part in this saga is the delivery. Are you going to look for a set of tyre tracks into a big pond?:D

Good idea on the BBQ but we'll have to chip in so we don't excessively stiff the dealer.
We could time it with an open house or dealer days and get the company reps to pony up for some of the grub.
Heck I could even take a side trip and stop at Ft Polk along the way.
Maybe catch up on the reasons I wake up screaming at night. No wait, I was a company clerk...
Seems I have this recurring dream about some guy that let his clutch freeze up and...

OK, it's on to the seed catalogs for the next couple weeks...
