sure it is an easy question for those of you in the know.

YM2200, going to change the oil, now that I have received my filters from Hoye.

which oil?

The engine takes 15/40wt oil for a diesel engine in most climates. You can read the back of the jug to see if your area is too cold for it in the winter but most are not.

We use chevron delo 400 15-40 on our sale tractors.

In my own I use rotella synthetic oil.

Is there an oil that's specially made for diesels? Never heard of diesel oil? Will regular automotive oil work?

thanks,
Ralph

ch-4 (or better) rateed oil is for diesels. Unless you have one of the newer diesels

dang!!!

changing the oil was too easy.....lol.....filter came off too easy, oil was able to be drained too easy, and fill up, well fill up is always the easiest part.

now I'm worried something bad is going to happen, since the oil change went so smoothly.....

no, this is my first tractor.......lol

however it has been my experience over the years, regardless of the project, that they never run this smoothly....ie needing to punch a hole in the oil filter with a screw driver in order to get it off, losing the plug to the oil pan, got the wrong filter........something......just kind of skeery, when it all goes as planned, and I'm the one that did the work...... lol

I can understand that. I recently had the misfortune to have to rebuild the engine on my YM1700 (long story). That is the first time I have ever tried to rebuild anything like that. Anyway, when I got everything back togother and turned the key it fired right up first time. I was really surprised and pleased. I expected to have some kind of fight with it to get it running.

There are some good folks who hang out on the board here with good advice for novices.
