Seeking the wisdom of experience, I have a small Kubota diesel engine powering a generator and small droplets of water are evident in the exhaust pipe. What is a probabal cause of this? It has 5000 hours and I have never had the time to even to a valve height adjustment, although its on my list.

Is the engine liquid cooled? Have you had to add any coolant lately? May be a leaking head gasket.

It could be a simple as a cold exhaust pipe condensing moisture.....a small diesel takes a while to warm up...hence the exhaust is cool for a while but warm enough to condense water.
Just a thought...hopefully it isn't too complicated or expensive to fix.

Yes it is. In fact it circulates coolant on a big highway truck as it is plumbed into its Caterpillar C-15. Occasionally there are traces of coolant on the Kubota by it water pump. It's hard to tell where it's coming from as this genset is put together in too cramped a compartment and it is hard to see amongst all the hoses et al. In fact the firm that made it recently went under, no ddoubt aided by design flaws.
