Hello,

I have a NX5010c with about 600 hours. The temp gauge is indicating that it is running warmer than it used to doing similar tasks. The gauge usually stays in the twelve oclock position when operating in summer running the a/c. I used it today mowing dry weeds and the gauge kept creeping up to the third tick mark or about the two oclock position. That is higher than it has been running in hot weather using the same rotary cutter and cutting thicker, greener grass and weeds in the same field. The gauge seemed to move a bit erratically at times, the needle sometimes would move very quickly.

I am not sure if the gauge is correct but I still stop and idle until it cools down a bit before continuing. It did this all afternoon today and the weather was not hot. Turning off the a/c helped some and I also tried running in a lower gear.

However there have been issues with the a/c belt squealing. I tighten it to a point that there is not much deflection but it starts squealing again after about two or three hours of use. This has been happening for some time and also after the belt was replaced. Could it be possible the compressor is causing too much of a load on the engine? The a/c cools very well and cycles off and on normally but the belt issue is making me think the compressor could have a problem causing the engine to work harder.

If anyone has a recommendation of what to try it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

How often do you blow the chaff out of the radiator? Do you look through with a light to make sure it is clear?

I'd check your water pump. If you have fluctuating and too high coolant temps, plus a squealing belt, could be the bearings are failing and or the impeller is loose on the shaft and rubbing against the timing cover or engine block.
I don't know on your engine, but the pump pulley often has the fan mounted to it. Reach behind the radiator, grab a fan blade, and see if you have any fore-aft movement.
You may need to loosen the belt to relieve tension.
Good luck.
Patrick

Thanks for your suggestions, that is helpful. I did look at the screen in front of the radiator and it was clean but it there could be some dust or gunk hidden in there. I will get an air tank and try blowing it out. I hope that is the problem.

I appreciate the fan and pump pulley tip Patrick. I will try that as well to verify there is no movement there.

It will be a few days before I get back to the farm where we keep the tractor but I will try to check back in if I find the problem.

Thanks again.

The screen may be clean but look at the radiator with a light behind it. Here is a good video showing what I mean:
