Nowhere for grease to go!

Have 2006 johndeere 110 backhoe. Went to grease for first time since I've owned it (bought used six months ago). Grease fitting for bushing on main front lift cylinder wouldn't accept grease. Removed grease fitting only to look in the hole the fitting came out of and low and behold there's nowhere for grease to go. In other words there's no hole for grease to get through to get to the bushing/shaft. Not sure what to make of it. Could it be the metal fused in this area?

It might not have been properly drilled out from the factory. You may have to finish drilling it out so the grease will go in.

Good thing you investigated. spdljohn gave good advice - get that assembly apart and finish what the machinist didn't.

Stuff like that happens. A drill bit breaks in an automated process. How many parts get thru before it is caught. I had a bush hog shaft break from abuse. When I got the replacement shaft I noticed the axial hole down thru the center and the zerk threads were fine but the radial hole half way down the shaft that allowed the grease to get into and fill the cavity between the upper and lower bearings was not drilled thru. I always wondered how may bushhogs were made like that with a dead ended grease fitting.
