That cannot be good for a car. Also, how do you get in to drive it away from the water? It would take a blow tourch, or until summer to melt that stuff.

Mornin Mike,
Wow those shots are amazing !!! You notice they dont use much sand if any, so I guess everyone has ice cleats to walk around in that stuff.:) Pass at your own risk kind of thing, no suit happy patrons over there ;)

Whats worse is when you get ice then it snows. Everything is slippery. Thats what happened here in WNY. 1/2 inch of ice then it's snowed everyday since...

I'm trying to figure out how it happens. Is the water coming off the lake from the wind and freezing in everything it comes into contact with?

This is what I'm thinking, but I've never seen water come off a lake that could do something like that.

Is it from freezing rain?

We get that here, but again, nothing that would do anything like those pictures.

That has to be one of those rare weather things that only happens there. I'm guessing it has to do wiht the lake, but I don't understand how. Does anybody know?

Eddie

PS Thanks for posting the pictures, they are amazing.

Eddie, Just my guess but, it looks to be only from wind blowing spray, and the lake is fresh water. It looks like the farther from the water the less ice.

Most interesting photos.

If you look at the tree's in the one picture you can see there is no ice on the very top of the tree's. It looks like they had one heck of a wind storm and it blew waves up to the walkway which splashed up and were blown inland.

Can you imagine waking up in the morning and looking out your front window to find your car encased in 6-8 inch's of ice. I can just hear that call into the boss. "You ain't going to believe this boss but my car is encased in ice and I can't make it to work today."

Somehow I get the feeling that the factory defrosters are not going to do much to these poor vehicles. :) They need a couple of torpedo heaters.
