I'm preparing to do 200 hr maintenance on L3430 can I use a non-kubota brand oil filter? Not good idea? Fram #? Amsoil # Anyone else doing this with oil / hydro filters?

My dealer strongly recommended FleetGuard

The last time I looked I did not find any filters other than Kubota for the Lxx30 series. If you do find them please publish the info

I use WIX. They have a solid reputation, and nearly every farmer in the area uses WIX in their equipment. I don't know who makes filters for Kubota, but I do know that WIX works. Wix has a web site which should cross reference your filter numbers if they make an equivalent filter.

I second WIX filters. Great filters at a reasonable cost. Many companies re-brand WIX filters for their own use. I know NAPA Gold filters are WIX around here for instance.

I just checked and WIX lists only air and fuel filters for the L3130 and the L3430; for the L3830 they also list an oil filter if your engine model number matches.

Napaonline.com list two oil filters for the L3430. Just put in the non napa filter #.
I have Napa filters on my Mitisibisi 372D cut , Cat C13 in a Peterbilt and many other weird applications in the past. Napa is good for the non everyday parts.

We have a kit that has the guts a few differnet filters torn apparet so you can see the differences. There are pictuers on our website. The WIX filters seemed pretty good, I'd shy away from FRAM - those look shotty.

I just put on a Mobil1 filter. Called the Mobil1 800 number to get the proper filter part number. They claim they are better. Perhaps I should cut it open when I take it off?

Is this going to become another "bash Fram" thread??? It takes more than taking a filter apart to know how good it is or bad that it is. Filter manufacturers are changing filters construction all the time to meet new engine requirements. The filter that was cut apart might not be of the same construction as the one that your tractor requires. The filter that you cut apart last month, might not be of the same construction of the filters that are being made this month. Filters are designed to be application specific. That is why the filter manufacturers say that just because it fits, doesn't mean that it is right. If Fram filters are so bad, then why don't the engine manufacturers say that if you use a Fram filter, your engine warranty is void???????

For one thing, because the Moss-Magnussen warranty act makes it illegal for a manufacturer to require any branded maintenance or repair products, unless they provide them to you at no additional cost. Seems to me that requiring someone not to use a particular brand is tantamount to requiring them to use some other brand.

Thanks, I did not do a cross reference just a catalog look-up. Why there is a part listed one place and not the other who knows?

After you cut it open, please post pictures, of what you look like after cutting open a used filter. Just joking.

check out the following URLsOil Filter Study and SHO Filter Study, which unfortunately does not include WIX/NAPA. There are other sources, but they are redundant and not as organized for use.

The Bottom line? Brands stay consistent in overall materials, methods, and philosophy. Generally, a bash on brand X from 4 years ago is valid with their latest version, as a significant change usually is accompanied by a brand name change.

My take? I stick to the top 3 - 5 (Wix/Napa, Purolator Premium, Mobile 1) for the filtering and quality of construction. I go with the cheapest of the lot, which is normally the Wix/Napa. K&N is fine filter, but it is optimized for high flow, giving up filtering smaller particles, check the footnotes.

I would have to be stuck in the desert with a choice between a 100+ mile tow or a filter, before I went with any of the bottom 2/3 filters. (I would change the filter at the first stop in civilization). Life is too short, and the tractor is too expensive. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for all the information - I will next time use a non-kubota oil filter - $10.00 for filter is a little high. But this time, tractor is 2 yr 8mth old with 230hr. I paid the extra for kubota.

FYI,
Kubota filter for my L275 locally is $6.20, Napa/Wix is $5.80, and Mobile 1 is $10.20 (not including tax.), and Kubota/E-Bay is $6.10 (not including shipping). I go for the Wix/Napa mostly because they are much closer than the Kubota dealer, and I just pick it up when I get the filters and stuff for my diesel cars, saving a trip...
If the Kubota was much closer /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif than NAPA, then I would take the 40 cents as investment in fuel consumption reduction.
