No Rotella T6

I ordered Amsoil online last Tuesday and I got everything I ordered, right to my door in less than 48 hours. Oil for my Harley and diesel oil for my tractor. So if you’re having difficulty finding your usual synthetic oil, ordering Amsoil is an option…

What did you pay per gallon for your tractor oil?

I’m in Canada so my price wouldn’t be a good comparison for you. I guess their Heavy Duty line is very popular...
Preferred customer Membership is $20 a year in the US? It's different here in Canada so you'll need to check the website.
Here's a link for all their Diesel Oils. Click on the oil that you’re interested in, then click on Technical info and then open the Data bulletin. Tons of useful info… https://www.amsoil.com/c/diesel-engine-oil/5/?zo=331384

I just grabbed the last 2.5 gallon jug of T6 5W-40 at tractor Supply on Friday for $52.99. It was the first T6 I have seen in months of watching every store I go in. I'm 2 quarts shy of a 6.7L Cummins oil change now, but at least I have something. I can patch in the 2 quarts with something else if needed. My truck has 1700 miles on it, so I have time to keep watching.

Rotella does sell a synthetic blend oil, which I assume is a mix of T6 and T4. If I needed to change oil, I would just mix in 2 quarts of T4. In fact I did this once on my 5.9 Cummins: 3 gallons T6 and one gallon T4 when the store only had 2 gallons of T6.

10W30 Amsoil diesel oil
$53.00 2.5 gal X 4 + $213.00 for 10 gal T6

Amsoil 1 gal $54.09 X 10 + $540/90 10 gal
1 gal 5W40 $13.59 X 40 + $543.60

Perferred $41.39 X 10 +$413.90 for 10 gal
1 gal 5W40 $10.29 X 40 + $411.60

It looks like Amsoil is $200 more and then what
is the price of being a member add that also.
Amsoil might be good but not when it costs almost
twice as much as T6

Castrol oil we used in our little car put 60,000
miles on it. I forgot to get oil but had some
Pennzoil and put that in and car got broke in
2000 miles of Pennzoil gained 3 miles per gal
went back to Castrol and mileage stayed the same.

Willy, I just read the linked article above. Seems to me to have been written by a 10 year old. For example they state
  • Reduce fuel consumption by up to 76%.
I like Amsoil and use it in pretty much everything, but that statement is probably not ever mentioned by Amsoil. It’s just not true. Maybe 3-5%?? Also the article compares the T6 5/15W40 to Amsoil Signature 5W30. Can’t compare T6 Diesel oil to Amsoil Sig 5W30 gas engine oil. Amsoil has had many articles in the past about diesel oil changes that were extended beyond OEM recommendations. Several in excess of 500000 miles. But in all those articles UOA was used to extend the interval safely. Show me something similar with T6!? Take that article you provided with a truckload of salt…😬

Willy, you need to compare the cost of T6 to the Amsoil Heavy Duty line which is in the same class. I think You’re comparing the Signature Series which, amongst other characteristics, is a long-life oil. Up to 3X or longer with UOA…

I would like to run SS in my BX, but it does not carry the API certifications or whatever that Kubota states is a minimum requirement. I have been slightly concerned of there were ever an engine issue and my oil doesn't meet their stated requirements (on paper) I might be in hot water. I am curious if Kubota tends to be a stickler for stuff like that.

What are the specs required in the BX. If the Amsoil SS doesn’t cover it maybe the Amsoil HD line does?

   / No Rotella T6 #271
Doesn't seem too specific but it does need to be API certified.

Amsoil SS doesn't carry any API certifications.

I can't remember if I saw that anybody their "diesel" oils do. However, if I can't run SS really no reason to run Amsoil, in my opinion.

Here you go. The chart shows what API specs the SS oils cover. Post 263. Open the link and then open technical info…

Right, they say it meets those requirements but it does not actually have API certification. Amsoil states it more than meets those requirements, but it hasn't actually been certified. Which matters to some manufacturers.

That chart is letting you know, for your own peace of mind, that if your manual requires "x" then this particular oil "y" is the one you should choose because it is formulated to meet those specs. However, not being certified can matter in warranty issues.

If Kubota isn't a stickler for such things, as long as I can prove the oil was changed, then it matters not to me.

If you look at your picture in post 271 Kubota says to meet xxx API classification. Doesn’t state API certified. So the requirement is to use the proper oil, ie diesel oil with the correct API classification, not whether it’s certified or not.

I read "have an API service classification" to mean it must be an official API certified oil, not carry a promise from the oil manufacturer that it does because they say so. Perhaps I'm misinterpreting that nomenclature. I'll dig into it a little more.

I also found this. So in their diesel line only the OE is API certified. In case anybody reading this is curious.

FYI, The OE and XL article you copied is gas oils. Be sure that you’re looking at the Amsoil diesel oils. Probably they’re not all certified either. Just saw your last post…

I can tell you that my new L3560 had excessive particulate in the oil at my 50 hour service I did the oil change and ran the oil past a paint filter. Oil was drained into a perfectly cleaned catch basin.

I poured the used oil back into the Kubota oil jug used to fill my machine.i put a latex glove over the filter to seal it.

I took the debris from the paint strainer to the dealer, a mechanic looked at it and agreed that it's highly unusual to see this much and type of hard debris. I left the plastic sandwich bag of debris with the mechanic who contacted kubota. They asked if I could provide the engine oil and the filter. I drive that all back to the dealer who sent the entire oil change material to a kubota lab in Texas, corporate paid to ship it all, ran the lab tests and provided my dealer with results.

Kubota has requested that I run to 100 hours and repeat the process, deliver all fluids and filter to the dealer to be again sent to the lab in Texas.

My feeling is that kubota does care what oil is in there and they will have it sent to a lab in Texas if there is a problem suspected. At the 100 hour point we will get the determination to replace the engine or to perform additional testing at whatever internal Kubota requests.

I do have to eat the cost of the oil and filter, but weighing that against my near $60k purchase.... I'll jump through the hoops to get things documented.

And I will, sure as ****, be using only kubota branded oil and filters for this.

Yep, good on you to be proactive and so observant. However, there is the issue of continuity, or lack there of. Kubota might still give you a hard time regardless, unless you can prove unequivocally that that oil and filter came from your tractor. Hard to do without video evidence, at least… Maybe have someone from the dealership attend when you do the next oil change. That one will be all important since it’s after the initial break-in cycle?!
