No Powersteering

Well I'm using my CadPlans 1007 FEL. First time I thought I was going to turn into a body builder because it steered so hard. But, remembered an earlier thread where someone mentioned upping the pressure in the front tires, and now that I have done that it steers much easier. Not as good as before the FEL, but significantly better, so that I am not chasing power steering.

Putting the bucket on the ground and lifting the front wheels will give you the same effect as power steering.

Do you have enough ballast on the back? Proper counter weight can work wonders for steering with a loader.

Got any pictures to show us? I'd love to see another CADPlans loader.

I have my 6' King Kutter finish mower on the back. It must weigh @250-300 lbs. It does become more difficult when cutting grass because it no longer is counter balancing the FEL, but with the increased air pressure even steering while doing that is less of a chore.

I don't have a digital camera nor a scanner, so....

BTW, if there is anyone out there needing lessons leared I would be happy to share, (e.g just came back from the hydraulic supplier for the umpteenth time,) and hydraulic changes/mistakes can get expensive fast.

Have you given any thought to adding power steering? I plan on adding power steering to my Yanmar 2220D. I have a power steering pump off a late model Ford probe. I will attach it via brackets to the motor, remove the steering box I presently have and add a "orbiting motor" to the steering shaft. Add a steering hyd. cyl. via bracket to the frame of the tractor and attach it to the steering link. Plumb in the hyd. lines and "viola", power steering. A friend has already done this to his IH B414, works great, steers with one finger! Plan on adding it to our B414 also....

I got this idea from a Farm Show article. The address is www.farmshow.com . Somehere I have the article copied, if I can find it I'll post it or send you a copy. The modificaton is simple, but requires some brackets and hyd. plumbing. Try to pick up a late model power steering pump with a v-groove pulley. Mine doesn't have one, I just have the pump on hand. A late model pump with a seperate resevoir is best as it is smaller in size. In my area they are cheap at the salvage yard. I plan on posting my progress, but I have to get a digital camera, don't have one yet.

These pics are from a conversion done by a friend. For my tractor I want to install the power steering pump under the hood using a pump with a seperate resevoir. Brackets can be made to fit, the orbiting motor can be purchased at your local hyd. supply. Be sure to measure the distance that your steering assy moves from far left to right to size up the steering cyl. Cyls. can be purchased new or used at a salvage yard dealing in equipment. This tractors conversion was done for less than $100.00. Sound investment in my opinion....
