Why there is a lot of "fake news"....!
A couple of reasons that are easy to observe is the fact that a lot of the programming on cable news networks ARE NOT NEWS SHOWS...they are commentary shows that are highly opinionated...too many peeps mistake the commentary shows for actual news reporting show...

Another similar issue is with Internet news portals etc...many sites (like yahoo) that post a lot of headlines that are entirely opposite of the actual news facts they represent...lots more peeps read just those headlines than actually read the linked stories where the real facts may or may not be presented in a factual manner...

People may hear a comment on a cable news network or read something in a headline and take it as news when it is totally bogus but they end up repeating it and then it continues to get repeated...pretty soon a lot of peeps are believing something that is entirely fake news...

facts are facts but they can be presented with polar dispositions....

yes. :thumbsup:

Finally there is something here on TBN that we ALL agree on.

ALL news is bias to some extent....

I think the reason why so many news organiztions don't check all their facts is because in todays electronic age, it's a race to see who can come out on an unexpected newsworthy story the fastest. Take all the biased opinions out of a news story, and even without all the facts present, the story itself can be misleading.

In todays electronic age, if a mistake is made, it's more of a "opps", well we can just change the electronic story in an instant, and put a small note at the bottom, no harm no foul.

Doing that with a newspaper that has paid reporters to report news (a dying dinosaur I guess) dosen't have that luxury.

The other year for the first time we watched "All the Presidents Men". From my understanding, the storyline in the movie was pretty accurate. Just watching the process back in the 70's on how they (the reporters) had to check and recheck their facts, added the fact that if the story was in print and wrong, the repercussions it could have on the newspaper. It took over 6 months of investigating before the story went to print to try to ensure the facts were straight.

In todays electronic age of instant news, how much time do you have to sit on a story?

Yes, very good points about the quality of news, fake headlines, and commentators being confused with news people. I remember watching a story on how the notion of the 24hr news channel was a catalyst for this decline. There is only so much news to report. The stations learned that they needed to fill the airwaves with something so they went with opinion commentators and made the news people part of the news itself.

That is one reason that I like Fabius Maximus. It is largely opinion based articles and only a few a week, but it is heavy investigation with resources listed. It's often giving in depth articles about the larger topics occurring. I believe I learned about it first when they did an article on Charlottesville. It was very interesting to see the details of what really was going on versus what I had just heard from the main news sources.

I like depth in the news. I am old enough to know that the world is not black and white. History is complicated and therefore the news needs detail to give us the real picture. I often will heard some outlandish claim from one of the commentator shows and it has me investigate it further. Sometimes they are actually shockingly correct and other times they have filtered down the truth so much that it's unfortunate there are people who will take it for truth.

I haven't watched "All the Presidents Men", I'll put that on my list.

Nope.
News is facts;
there was a car wreck on I94. There was a tornado in Joplin. Central high beat Megasuburban in football. Bob lost the election to Sally. Those are facts.

Even if they got the facts wrong;
The car wreck was actually trucks on I93. There wasn't a tornado, it was straight line winds. Central tied Megasuburban and Bob really won the election over Sally... those are still facts, albeit incorrect facts. There's no bias there. Just inaccuracy.

It's when someone intentionally or subconsciously misconstrues the facts, that bias can take place.

bias:
prejudice in favor of or against one thing, person, or group compared with another, usually in a way considered to be unfair.

While it's pretty common for fake news to make up stories to push a political agenda, what I think is even worse is their refusal to report a story that they do not want anybody to know about. First time I saw this was when they refused to report about Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky. After Matt Drudge put it out there and it became the biggest story of the year, they admitted to knowing about it for a long time, but said it wasn't something they though anybody would want to hear about.

Today, in my opinion, the biggest story is how the FBI pushed the fake Russian Collusion investigation, lied about it to the FISA judges, and relied on a Dossier written by a guy that the FBI had already fired as being untrustworthy, paid for by Hillary, and considered fake by the head Lawyer at the FBI. He also testified under oath in England that it wasn't accurate. And now that the documents proving all this have been released, the media is still protecting those that where responsible for these crimes and mostly ignoring what is coming out as the documents are unclassified. Which is why I believe so many people have no idea of what has been happening.

Then there is COVID19 and all the medical experts that have been using Hydrox with exceptional results. The media either denies this is happening, or they attack the doctors that have been treating people with it successfully. Even now that the Ford Study has come out and proven it to be effective when used early on, they refuse to report it. Or that Dr Fauci in 2005 and 2013 said it was a wonder drug that worked better then expected, but today says it's not a proven drug that isn't safe. The media just reports what fits their agenda and ignores all the evidence that supports that there is a simple, cheap and effective treatment for COVID19

And how many people are aware of the violence happening every night in Portland? The media has said that their is no violence, that ANTIFA is peacful and that FOX News is making it all up. Since they don't show the same video of the violence and destruction, how many people know what bad it is there?

And probably most importantly, voter fraud is a massive issue, but since most of the media refuses to report story after story of people being prosecuted for voter fraud, or how many mail in ballots never make it to the polls, or how they have been caught filling in ballots after the election like Al Franken and Broward County, that it doesn't exist. Both parties are guilty of voter fraud, yet the media ignores it.

If the media doesn't report it, then far to many people have no idea that it's happening, and when it is brought up, they can claim its a conspiracy theory, or fake news or attack the person bringing it up because it goes against what they want to believe.

Can you produce the facts behind your opinion per your statement?

You didn't answer my first question directed towards you per this thread on comments you made, so I give it a 50/50 chance you answer this question per this thread.

Seems like a lot of people just read what they want. Have to grit your teeth and read all the way across the spectrum. Otherwise just flying blind. Even reading broadly, it is hard to sort out. Sometimes I go weeks without looking at any news. Doesn't seem to make any difference and frees up time for other things.

I've gone several YEARS without watching any news at all. I sometimes search certain topics on DuckDuckGo or read a few national/neutral news sites just scanning the headlines, but I gave up TV news completely, even the local stuff.
