There's also a bunch of news sources that DO fact check. However, lotsa people don't like the facts. ;)

I worked for our local newspaper for 30 years. We were consistently rated by many organizations as straight down the middle, neutral, least biased, etc...

Yet pretty much any controversial subject got poor marks from the extreme fringes on both sides of the issue being reported as too much in the other guys' favor or not enough in my favor.

And it was always the same people writing in and calling in week after week.... kinda reminds me of some other place I'm familiar with...

I've said it before, but I'll say it again....

People often get news pieces confused with editorial opinion pieces.

News is facts. They don't like the facts.

Editorial opinion is how someone feels about those facts. They either agree or disagree with your opinion, but it doesn't change the facts.

This is too funny...Between the last election cycle and the climate changing issue and the last 10-15 years of the upper echelon of the judicial system has proven beyond any doubt that there is no such thing as being unbiased...journalists, judges, scientists, doctors etc., etc... are no exception...
Even the people that are supposed to rate the media and the so called "fact checkers" are no different....They ALL have biases and prejudices...
There are NO exceptions...period!

I agree-it seems their are less news sources that do fact checking and remain unbiased.
Probably due to so few owners of the news sources. I used to watch BBC as at least they were less biased about goings on in the US, but everyone seems to have taken sides making it harder to find out any facts.

Yes, I used to like BBC myself, but they are skewing the news as much as the rest nowadays. I just listen to my wife now, she always knows what's best for me...

I agree with you 100%. And that didn't even hurt one little bit...

I believe the word you are looking for is Projection. People accuse others of what they know to be true about themselves.

You beat me to it. Any man that comes on in a forum and constantly does the Debbie Downer thing does not seem too stable to me. Just saying. :)

I see that I'm not alone in with the BBC. It used to be a great source for what was happening in the US.

"Fact Checkers" are the comics for me.

The AP is the most entertaining.

"I like green eggs"

Fact Check if the AP likes her "Yes, we saw her eat an egg once without making a funny face. - TRUE"
Fact Check is the AP doesn't like her "In an unverified report, we heard that she sent back a dish of runny green eggs. - FALSE"

Feb. 2020 blind bias survey found Americans with Center, Lean Right and Right political views view AP's content as Lean Left; participants who identified themselves as Left and Lean Left see AP's content as on the border of Lean Left and Center. However, an April 2020 editorial review by the AllSides team found AP's slight left lean is not consistent or clear enough to warrant changing its rating to Lean Left.

Which goes to say, if you don't like the facts, regardless of which side you're on, you'll push your own feelings onto those facts.

I have two very reliable "news" sources.

Left Wing (i.e. Democrate) = MSN
Right Wing (i.e. GOP) = Fox

Sources such as Washington Post and NY Times are a simply waste of time. One already knows what they'll have to say.

Both of the above sources are reliable in that their "news" has been, is now, and always will be slanted to their point of view. It would be a pleasure to find a common news provider that simply REPORTS the news, rather than trying to MAKE news. Sadly, they've forgotten how to do that.

Must say I've become rather disappointed in Fox lately, it has become a book store for their employees. That's inappropriate, they are suppose to be selling news not books.

Why there is a lot of "fake news"....!
A couple of reasons that are easy to observe is the fact that a lot of the programming on cable news networks ARE NOT NEWS SHOWS...they are commentary shows that are highly opinionated...too many peeps mistake the commentary shows for actual news reporting show...

Another similar issue is with Internet news portals etc...many sites (like yahoo) that post a lot of headlines that are entirely opposite of the actual news facts they represent...lots more peeps read just those headlines than actually read the linked stories where the real facts may or may not be presented in a factual manner...

People may hear a comment on a cable news network or read something in a headline and take it as news when it is totally bogus but they end up repeating it and then it continues to get repeated...pretty soon a lot of peeps are believing something that is entirely fake news...

facts are facts but they can be presented with polar dispositions....
