new (used) L35 questions

Howdy guys,

I've been looking for a while and finally bought a L35 TLB. It has just under 1200 hrs onit and only has a couple of issues I need to fix plus I have some maint questions if you guys could help me with.

#1 One of the BH stabilisers leaks down from it's up (stored) position. Does this tend to be a valve or cylinder issue?

#2 Battery light was on when I picked it up--Alternator? where is the best place for a new one or could it be cheaper to have the old overhauled?

I want to change out all of the fluids could you tell me all the different types and suggested fluids to use? amounts?
Instructions as to drain and fill locations and quantities?

I'd like a decent repair manual- Suggestions

Any other comments/suggestions for a new owner-I've had small (old) tractors before but not a TLB.

This is pretty normal if the leakdown is slow, most people put a chain or strap between the two to keep them from going down. If the leakdown is fast, then it's often the cylinders that need rebuilding.

Check the voltage at the battery while the machine is running to see if the alternator is putting out. Could be a bad battery, loose connection or bad alternator.

I checked the battery, connections-all good. No voltage change from the alt when running, will need alt it looks like

Found an add for manuals here in classifieds, emailed that dealer for info.

How hard is it to rebuild a cyl for the stabiliser? It's not real fast going down but would like it right.

Cylinders are generally easy to rebuild. The hardest part is figuring out how the end cap come off-there are just to many variations. Post a picture here, or start a new thread in the hydraulic forum when you are ready to get started.

Be forewarned though...they still may leak down some, Just the nature of the spool valves used. That's why I asked "how fast" they come down-I know it's subjective, but if your talking a inch an hour or so I would probably say it's normal. The chain or strap will solve this for you.

I've owned an L35 for some time and I've never had the BH stabilizer drift down. It could be a cylinder leaking internally. Unfortunately I don't have a hyd. schematic. Spool valves leak some but mostly when they are hot. I agree with you I would want it right.

As far as the fluids are concerned you will need the universal drivetrain fluid for the transmission/hydraulics (I assume you have the GST tran. not hystat). The drain is under the transmission and the filter is in front of the RH rear fender against the frame. It's a spin-on type. You can get the UDT fluid at Tractor Supply a lot cheaper than Kubota. You'll need 42 qts. The front axle uses 80 or 90wt gear oil and the drain is a small plug near the bottom of the bevel gear housing just inside the wheel on each side. It's a small plug and will take some time to drain, especially if it's cold. If the previous owner had already changed it you shouldn't need to. Just check the level with the little plug on the front of the axle housing (not the large fill plug but the small plug - capacity 5.8qts.). Engine oil is multivis or straight SAE depending on season. I just use the Shell Rotella 10w40 all the time. I let it warm up good in cold weather (5.1qts.). There are two drain plugs under the engine. They are exactly the same and easy to see.
You need 7.4 qts of antifreez/water mix. The little plastic drain under the radiator is hard to turn sometimes. Might need pliers.

My L39 BH stabilizers have leaked down since new. They have never went all the way down just a foot or so.
