New Tractor owner in search of Diesel gas containers

Drained and replace a cracked tractor diesel tank at work this week, and would recommend these types of self starting siphons vs. the new style spouts. TSC had on clearance for $5 and used it to drain and refill the fuel tanks from a portable yellow 5 gallon diesel can.

For home use bought a 100 gallon tank and hand crank pump (also at TSC for ~$300) and had it filled with off road diesel by truck. Best investment ever -- one tank lasted almost 2 years and no trips to gas station. In retrospect, should have filled with on road diesel so I could (legally) use in my diesel vehicle when too lazy to go to the station.

Anyone use a fuel caddy?

Our tractor holds 10 gallons so I usually just let it get below half, put a big funnel in the neck and dump the whole can.

I'm not talking about the off the shelf new style carb cans. The no-spill brand mentioned above gets pretty good reviews. Supposedly you can stick the spout down in the hole and just let it fill till full. As soon as the fuel covers the vent it stops filling so it doesn't run out the filler hole. I might still pony up for one just to try it out on my little tractor since it is the hardest to fill without spilling.
My experience is they don't auto shut off. The flow is dramatically reduced, but it will still over flow. I like my small one for filling small hand held equipment, but the 5 gallon one pours slow.

My no spill cans do shut off when the tank is full, and that IS the best part of them!

Like has been said several times here, they do pour to slow.

They fill plenty fast, fills my tractor fast enough. How fast do you want them to fill. Like the race cars.

On my tractor where I can conveniently rest the can on the loader arm the slow rate of flow is ok. Filling other equipment where there's no place to rest the can and I have to hold it I want it to flow out in a hurry.

Well, I'm not as young as I use to be, waiting several minutes holding a can full of diesel up, while it gurgles away for what seems like forever, isn't something I like to do!

This is why I'm "mostly" using my old 2-1/2 gallon Rotella oil jugs for fuel these days. They last a LONG time, are pretty much FREE, don't leak and pour as fast as I want...

A friend of mine uses a "dump can" because he hates the EPA venting dance.

But you have to be very psyched because they cost $40!

I believe the metal cans with spout are probably faster. The ones I have don't have the funnel: I use a giant TSC funnel with screen.

I have the JEGs equiv of what you linked from Summit. I have not had much luck with them. They spill and spit fuel everywhere. I have not had much luck with them at all.
