New Tractor owner in search of Diesel gas containers

I've found that neither the diesel fuel, or the can I put it in, care what color the can is!

I use what I have and have no problems at all.

Since use both gas and diesel I try to keep it in the right can. I use yellow cans for diesel. I've got a 55 gallon drum with a transfer pump for diesel, but sometimes I still need cans.

The extension is really handy if your fuel fill is up on top of the tractor like mine is. If not they have shorter ones too. They come with a vent you can add to the can. It's in the same section as the fuel cans.

I don't pour ANYTHING into ANYTHING until I visually look at it... I've never made a mistake yet!

The best cans I have, are empty 2-1/2 gallon Rotella oil jugs! They are just about perfect!

I finally gave up and had both a gas and diesel tank delivered to the property. Much easier to fill the tractor and mowers and UTVs cars and pickups.

Yellow is for diesel. The main reason to put them in the actual correct container is so that if someone else needs to use them they do not put the wrong fuel in the wrong motor.

We had a local case where woman put kerosene in a red gasoline container. Went to fill up the kerosene heater. Grabbed wrong jug......... boom.

Conveniently TSC sells replacement nozzles for the old style cans. Of course they say legally you can only put them on the old style cans. The fit the new ones just fine...... trust me you will want one of those.

I had a mix of blue for kerosene, yellow for diesel and red for gas. When I got more diesel equipment I just spray painted my blue and red cans yellow using my cheapo HF sprayer. Worked like a charm.

For new cans I would look for the most durable foolproof cans available. In fact, at the store drop one on the nozzle and if it doesn't break, that's the one for you.

Keeping the simple spouts are will be best.

Yep. I simply used some yellow duck tape to visually identify the red 20 litre petrol 'can' from the red 20 litre diesel one. A big yellow band around the body, 3x stripes on the handle and black texta marker on top saying DIESEL.

I've done similar with my 5 litre 2-stroke plastic red can... using black duck tape (as above).

I remember when I was young, I used to see green gas cans specified for diesel.\ I have been unable to find any now that I have purchased my first tractor. What I have found online are yellow instead of green and here in Oklahoma nobody seems to stock anything. Do I need a special container for my diesel or can I buy a regular red gas can and label it for diesel? Any help would be appreciated.

OP - you need to get in the mindset of:

I used to see green FUEL cans specified for diesel.

. Think FUEL, say FUEL or DIESEL.

Don't buy any fuel can with the spouts that have to push the nozzle in to fill. These are what most places sell now and you will spill about as much as you put in with those, that is if they work more than once. The one that I bought like that worked one time and then wouldn't open so I had to modify it to just use it without a nozzle (use a funnel on it now and just pour it out of the spout). Blitz makes some of the better ones with the squeeze handle if you can find them. They work slow but they don't leak or spill anything.

I just unscrew the top and pour or siphon.

Labeling is important unless you can be positive you will be the only user. Years ago one of my sons filled the small 4 cycle lawnmower tank with diesel. Boy that was hard to start!! I finally sniffed the tank and changed the fuel. Started much better

Now I use a set of stencils and spray yellow or red paint spelling diesel or gas on the cans if they are not prelabeled..
