New Tractor owner in search of Diesel gas containers

I remember when I was young, I used to see green gas cans specified for diesel. I have been unable to find any now that I have purchased my first tractor. What I have found online are yellow instead of green and here in Oklahoma nobody seems to stock anything. Do I need a special container for my diesel or can I buy a regular red gas can and label it for diesel? Any help would be appreciated.

They go by yellow now for diesel.
Blue for Kerosene, and of course red for gasoline.

"Legally speaking", you MUST use an approved YELLOW container for diesel.

The codes for hazardous fuels/materials have changed since the old days. All newer diesel cans are yellow by statute. It's a good idea to buy a newer can anyway.

An officer or fire marshall "can" cite you for transporting, storing, or dispensing fuel into an unauthorized container... but you're not likely to run into that problem.... unless you live in the foreign country of tree-huggin' hippy statutes known as California.

On the flip side... should you find one of the old cans of a different color, you can still legally use it as long as it retains the original painted-on warning or stamped/emobossed designation.

I use yellow cans from RuralKing, but also have a red can with marking on it for diesel

Tractor Supply has the same cans as Rural King (which doesn't seem to have any stores west of Missouri).

Pick up some of theses stickers, I put them on my yellow diesel container.

Don't buy any fuel can with the spouts that have to push the nozzle in to fill. These are what most places sell now and you will spill about as much as you put in with those, that is if they work more than once. The one that I bought like that worked one time and then wouldn't open so I had to modify it to just use it without a nozzle (use a funnel on it now and just pour it out of the spout). Blitz makes some of the better ones with the squeeze handle if you can find them. They work slow but they don't leak or spill anything.

No-Spill, in Kansas, makes a can with trigger that vents out the back. They actually hold five gallons, and have a handle in back. Also the opening is much larger than cheaper cans. Product Features Works well though a guant funnel and open spout is faster.

Blitz shut down in 2012, due to lawsuits over explosions. Opinions vary over whether they were actually defective or it was the owners who were defective.

Eagle and Just Rite make metal cans, with our without spouts.
