New tractor financing question

I've looked at used, they either have a LOT of hrs, or are priced near new. If I'm paying new price, I want the warranty that comes with it, JUST in case.

I'm going to buy pretty local, somewhere between the house and the property, and the dealer will know he has a customer, not a one time sale. As an auto tech, I know that a good customer base means a lot, especially in the slow season. ( Which is when I'm planning on buying)

Thanks, pretty much sums up what I found, good to see some other Wa folks here! Was dissappointed with pricing in the Yakima area. Could do better here on the west side, or Spokane. Will have to see how things come together once the time is here.

...is it worth while to go into Oregon, (NO sales tax) to purchase? We're talking another 50 miles or so, and would be buying something in the 35hp range, TLB, so not an inexpensive purchase, by any means. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

When I bought my JD 110 TLB (highly recommended, by the way) in OR last year, I discovered that tractors are neither titled nor registered in OR. Since I keep the tractor on the property in OR, I had no legal issues with not paying tax.

My dealer charges $1/mile to trailer the TLB to his shop. This sounds a lot cheaper than paying sales tax.

The two TLB's that come to mind immediately in the 35 hp range are the Deere 110, and the Kubota L39. Either one will set you back on the order of $40k new, if you get the 4-n-1 bucket. You can trailer it a lot of miles for 8% of 40 k.

BTW, at least in CA there is a legal way to avoid sales tax on a major purchase. Basically, you can buy the item in-state, but have it delivered to an out-of-state location. You must then keep the item outside of CA for at lesat 6 months before you bring it back in-state. At that point no tax is due because it is used.

I bet WA has a similar program. No one in the government will give you much information on this, but it should be possible. If you bought 6 months before you wanted to use the tractor and had a place to keep it in OR, you could buy from a WA dealer, have it delivered in OR and 6 months later bring it back to your place and not have to worry about the tax man knocking on your door.

I bet there are a lot of TBNers in Northern OR who might be willing to babysit your TLB for 6 months to help you out...
