given the same 3000 dollar price, would anyone here buy a new x300 or a 2010 x500 with 100 hrs, the 500 looks pretty rough cosmetically, but seems mechanically intact. This is a tough one for me. Thanks

if everything was straight an sound on it.an everything on it worked an it ran ok.id prolly go ahead an buy it.but that depends on if you like your stuff in mint shape.

I know we are talking lawn/garden tractors, what would the x500 cost new? What would it take to cosmetically fix it? New seat? More? This info would help answer your question.

If the x500 is at a JD dealer you can usually deal on parts at time of purchase, but not later.

That's tough just because the X300 has the K46 tranny in it which is notoriously weak. I bought a new X300 a year or so ago and I like it a lot, but I also know that the tranny isn't exactly bulletproof either. If you have a bunch of varying grades in your lawn, you might want to upgrade to the X320 if buying new just to get a better tranny. I wish I would have, but no use crying over spilled milk. I'll just deal with the tranny upgrade if/when the time comes.

When you say the x500 looks rough, can you give a better description? i would think with only 100 hours it should look almost new. I agree with trying to get a deal on cosmetic parts while negotiating.
