Reading "Simple fixes" in this forum reminded me of this stupid mistake I made last fall:
I had just finished installing a new over head garage door in my north barn, there was no door there originally. Since the floor was very dirty and uneven, I had laid a sheet of OSB on it to catch dropped tools and hardware, and keep my ladders from wobbling. After the door was done, I wound the springs, then removed the clamps on each track and tried to raise the door. It went up a few inches, it felt like the springs were not working right. I rechecked the tension and it was okay. Said a few choice words, took the spring assemblies apart, then made sure I followed the instructions exactly, AGAIN. Got off the ladder, tried to put the door up, still the same problem, went up a few inches and it felt like the springs were pushing it down. Checked the instructions again...I KNEW I had followed them exactly.
Said a few more choice words, then went outside to see if anything was catching the door out there. Leaned down to look at the sill outside, put my left hand against the door for support, and up it went just fine, as the sheet of OSB that has been caught on the inner lip and holding the door down with my weight on it, dropped off.
You would never believe how stupid I felt !!!
