Heck, you can carry both the Kubota ZDs on that. :)
I can on my current Pequea, too.
Going to use this for the ZD’s, smaller hay deliveries and future CTL.

Appalachian is an economy brand of trailer. Nothing fancy. I had a Appalachian gooseneck for years and it was fine.
No “Diamond-C”, that’s for sure, but I don’t need to spend $20,000 for what I’ll be using it for. This trailer was a little over 1/2 that.

I do like that it has the W 12x16 12” frame and 12-1/4” x 3-3/8” brakes.

Super singles like the trailer pictured ? Or dual tandems?

I went with the super singles since I already have a dual tandem.

I like super singles but they pull like an anchor. They’ll get you stuck in a hurry.

The only place I don't like my super singles is when loaded heavy in soft sandy areas but it pulls great to me in the rest of my uses and you will absolutely love the 17.5 tires over the 16's as they are tough as nails, congratulations on your new trailer, it's gonna be a great week brother.

Nice trailer! Looks heavy duty, the 5500 will be a good match. It is 20k rated with 5k hitch weight, equipped with a pintle hitch coupler. The 22k ball coupler will derate it to about 2.2k hitch weight or about 18.2k gvw rated, still a serious trailer. It should serve you well.

From the manufactures web site.

GVWR 20,000 lb. - Capacity 15,000 lb. with 5,000 lb. Hitchload

  • Heavy duty adjustable plate for pintle eye (ball hitch N/A)

My dual tandem has 17.5’s. I really like them. They never seem to look like they’re overloaded, or going to fail.

It is going to be a great week, indeed my friend.

I will have to check on that. They did not specify a de-rating of the trailer, but that makes sense. Although it says the ball hitch is N/A, it is actually available.
If it derates the trailer, I am going back to the ring lunette. I need all 20K capability.
The order was just placed, so easy to change now.
Easy to change anytime, really. Was kind of thinking last week of having both couplers for it.

For hay, my goal is 8 square bales @ 1,750# each so that’s 14,000lbs. The rest of the time, it will be used for mowers and a future CTL.

They do have more rolling resistance on soft ground, but I stay off my fields if it’s soft. Can’t afford to make ruts anywhere on hay fields or customers properties.
I also have my dual tandem GN for heavier work if I have a situation where it’s soft and I have to use a trailer.

Good call. I buy, repair and sell trailers to supplement my retirement. The last 3 heavy duty bumper pulls that I sold, all came with pintle hitches, and high pin weight ratings. I always install ball couplers (21k Demco's) to make them more pickup truck friendly. I always include the pintle ring with the sale and advise them of the different ratings.

Not to berate you, your truck or trailer. I know you are an experienced heavy hauler. Just trying to help. But keep in mind, 5500 or not, 5k hitch weight will be sketchy with the long overhanging flat bed/hitch, receiver rating and ball/pintle mount rating. I think the 2.2k ball coupler is enough for the 5500. I recommend using your dump truck with the pintle hitch.

All good. I don’t like to get ahead of myself, but in the future, I will have a large hay hauling truck. What I would like to do is pull it behind the much larger hay truck, which will have a much greater pin weight rating. Then I will use the Pequea 10K trailer for the 2 zero turn mowers
I can switch between hitches, or just revert to the pintle style.

I asked Appalachian about the ball coupler. Here was their reply:

“Our typical ball couplers are only rated for up to 16,000 pounds. For this trailer we will use a heavier cast coupler that is rated at 25,000 pounds, so your weight rating is not compromised.”

I’m just wondering about the pin weight rating of that cast coupler??
