Are you glad you got the model with the ROPS now? Those pictures gave me the willies(our yard is as flat as a pool table).

Also, our didn't come with the grease zerk, either, so I did the same and installed one. I'll notch the cover some day, but for now I just remove it.

Again, congratulations on a great job and thanks for the pictorial. That alone takes some time.

Not sure what your plates look like but mine have slotted sides on both plates so you ocan move them forward or backward which means that I do not have to remove either plate to grease. I will try and get picture this afternoon.

The 4 n 1 acts the same as if it were the 5cu bucket. Movement up and down is the same when digging. I have used it to pick up rocks as well as dirt (clam shell) and use it as a bucket to dig (without clam shell action).

Actually no one stopped but many drove by very slow. The project was at a friends house in Minneapolis which has a number of new homes being built in same area. As large boulders are very popular, many of the new homes with steep fronts are doing the large rock retaining walls. All are using the large crawler with arm to place rocks. I enjoyed watching the workmen drive by trying to figure out what I was using. Most gave a thumbs up and a big smile as they drove by.

My center tunnel cover is slotted, but it is such a tight fit that I cannot slide it forward or backwards without a prybar. I could just slide it back and tighten down the blots and that would be that, but I still think I want to grind a hole there for greasing. Also, since I take it off every 8 hours, I find lots of grass clippings in there, so then is a good time to remove them.

Yeah, the looks you get when you drive a Power Trac are pretty fun. I've had people stop and watch when I'm mowing, but when I drive towards them, they take off. A few of the old timers in the neighborhood have no problem stopping by when I'm working on something. They like the cut quality of the mower. Then when I tell them I also have two buckets, pallet forks and a brush hog, they want to see it. So I stop mowing, drop the mower deck, attach the large bucket and head over to the dirt pile to show them how much it will lift and carry. Then we chat over the fence for a while, and before you know it, the lawn isn't mowed, the sun is setting, the wife is calling me in for dinner and I have to finish mowing by the light of the headlamps after dinner. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I'm looking forward to showing off the 425 in Montana. I'm pretty sure that mine is the first in the Bozeman area. I plan on taking it to different friends homes to help them which will give more exposure. After talking with you and others for the past three years I feel confident showing this machine off.
Here is the pictures of the zerk fitting. I do like your idea for cleaning.

Attached is a bad picture of my cover. Note the bolts in the slots are almost in the middle of the slots and the zerk is not viewable. It is under the cover.

Interesting. Yours is a little different than mine. I wonder if it is another subtle design change or more like a fingerprint... no two are exactly alike /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Great pictures of the project pajoube. But you're making it increasingly difficult for me to postpone my purchase. Fortunately I think I'll be able to take a trip to Tazwell in about two weeks. My want list includes 48" finish mower, 5cu.ft. bucket , front blade, forks, mini hoe, and box blade. I guess I'll have to decide when I try them in Tazwell if the 4-in-1 will do the work of box blade and front blade and 5cu.ft. bucket well enough to buy it instead of those 3 attachments.

I have another question. I wonder if it would be worth it to get bar tread tires instead of turf treads. The "dirt" in E. TN is terrible slimy clay, not as easy to move around in as the dirt I encountered in MN.

That is a tough one to answer - for my use in Minnesota and Montana the turf tires are perfect. In fact according to Hans and MossRoad, the turf are great for winter also. I can see bar treads in wet soil but turf for dry soil.
