Well you guys have been hearing me dream of a new truck for some time now and recently dealing with electrical woes on my old GMC (other thread).

The old girl was good to me, but at 178K miles she been a bit less dependable. So my wife, the saint she is, began shopping for a new truck on Monday. We missed few deals and walked out of many dealerships until I visited a dealer in New Hampshire that was really great. Got a great deal, great service and nice people to work with.

I won't be picking her up until Tuesday due to work schedule and the dealer has to install a remote starter, bed liner and possibly the plastic wheel well liners, mudflaps and bed rail protectors.

But here is some dealer photos (from the transfering dealer):

Nice truck! Nothing like the feel of a new vehicle. What engine/trans/ gear ratio?

Nice! But as already posted we need details!

It appears to be gas, 6.0L from the pics. The exhaust is the giveaway.

Congrats.

Thanks!

Sorry, not very focused today. Keep dreaming about Tuesday when I pick her up!

2012 Chevy 2500HD LT
- 6.0L gas engine
- 6 spd Automatic
- 3.73 gears with Eaton Gov-Lock
- 4wd (electronic shift)
- Tow package with brake controller
- Plow package
- PW, PDL, cruise, CD player, Sirius Radio, On Star, etc.
- Upgraded cloth seats
- Dealer is throwing in the remote starter and bedliner as part of the deal. :)

Some interesting things:
- The 2.5 inch trailer hitch is HUGE compared to the older trucks. This is rated to tow 13,000 lbs on a bumper pull!
- All the new trucks have traction control (??) Never seen that on a conventional 4wd.
- The dealer and some of the documentation seems to indicate that the 6.0 has active fuel management (shuts down cylinders on the freeway). That should be interesting, as I do a lot of highway driving.
- The roof lights are common option, but not the giant towing mirrors. I kind of like those big mirrors with heat & directionals, but not a deal breaker.
- Fog lights seem common on the 1/2 tons, but rare on the HD trucks unless on the premium packages.
- Not many extended cab HD trucks availible (Chevy or GMC) and in fact I started searching for GMCs first. No extended cab available in any package in New England besides one work truck in Maine. I opened my search up to Chevys too, which was much better, but still surprisingly limited. Wasn't this combo the most popular truck combination at one time?

I know that Chris is going to ask this: I could not find this particular combo in a 3500 at all. I was going to shop the Fords as well since ECSB F350 SRW trucks are common here, but we qualified for a bunch of GM discounts with our credit union, GM loyalty, GM trade. I also have no real world sense for mileage on Fords new 6.2L gas engine and 6 spd Torqueshift, where as my father has a 2011 Chevy that I've compared mileage with.

You will love that brake controller. It is not placed as good as Fords but is still a nice unit that works much much better than any aftermarket unit.

The hitch is rated at 13,000# but make sure the truck is in the manual with the gearing you have.

As for the mirrors get them. You will hate them little car mirrors and once you use the others you will never go back. Your dealer can order them and install for pennies per payment.

Very nice looking truck. I've had 1 truck and 3 cars with MDS, which is Chrysler's version of turning off 4 cylinders, and it works well. You won't notice it unless you really try. I agreee with Chris, they make a lot of aftermarket mirrors that look like they replace your mirrors easily. If you don't ever tow, it probably doesn't matter. My Dodge has the tow mirrors that flip up and out for towing, which is a nice setup.

Right now Tuesday probably seems like a long time away, but enjoy the new truck and post some more pics when you get a chance.

Very nice!
Is it black or a dark blue? Tough to tell from my phone.

Very nice truck. Sorry you had such a hard time finding an extended cab. We're working Saturdays to keep up with demand. We build all the extended cabs here at Ft.Wayne Assembly,IN. Thanks for buying one of our trucks.

I have a newer Duramax and my son has a gas with the engine management. The truck has so much frontal area that in a still wind between 50 -55 mph it has to use 8 cylinders continuous to push it down the road. You can never feel when it is on 4 or 8 cylinders or the transition unless you are looking at the display.

I had the 6.0 back in a 2003 2500 and I loved it. As far as gassers go it is a great engine and I am sure you are going to love this truck, congratulations with the purchase.

Tow mirrors are great to have and it is easier to get them now (read:cheaper) than later. As another said, add them to financing for $5 a month more.

This is what my buddy tells me about his. He says it works at 45/50 but over its worthless.

The real advantage is the 6 speed over the old 4 speed. They all had to have 4.10 gears to give them any balls which killed the millage. The 6 speed/3.73 is much better suited for that motor.

X2 on the 6 speed. I had a 6.0 4 speed prior to the Duramax. Drank too much gas for me.

Looks nice

congratulations!

You have been having trouble finding ext cabs...I am looking for the same truck, but in a color OTHER than the ugly grey or silver that the seem to have flooded the world with.

Black is ok, but there are a lot around here.

I am not a red vehicle person

I might have to go with white

GM sure doesn't offer too many choices
