I recently had a pleasant experience dealing with a company. I purchased an Anderson storm door from Home Depot. During the installation, I cut one piece wrong. Did not notice until I mounted the lockset that the lockset did not line up with the striker plate.
I messed around with it a while and made some modifications that would work, but did not look attractive. The next time I was in Home Depot, I looked for a replacement part. They do not carry replacement parts, so I decided to call Anderson. Anderson wanted the serial number on the door. When I read it out to them, they new which door it was, and said they would send the replacement part at no charge. I was shocked. Apparently they have a "OOPS-PROOF" installation warranty where if the customer screws something up they replace it.
A couple days later UPS delivers a 7 foot long cardboard cylinder that contains the replacement part, as well as new screws, strike plates, and instructions.
Needless to say I was impressed.
Quite often we talk about the bad service, but at least this time, the service could not have been better. Next time I need a door, I'll surely look at Anderson again.
