I need to get a couple hay tools (17' tedder and 13' rotary rake) moved to my farm from out of state. The quotes I got from the selling dealers seemed pretty steep and I thought Id look into it myself before going w/ their shipper. The only problem is that Im having a real problem getting quotes. I either use the online tools or call, give the infos and never hear back. Has anyone done made their own shipping arrangements who can give some insight into this process? Im doing something wrong just not sure what.

I'm having an IH #8 2-14 Little Genius trailer plow shipped right now from Illinois to CA (about 2000 miles).

I used uShip.com and paid the $6.95 for a premium listing, meaning that my listing goes near the top of the stack when a hauler logs in and searches for loads.

I also used the "Match this price" feature which gives the load to the first hauler to match my specified price.

I got 3 bids within 2 hours, the last one being a match.

Should have that plow delivered next week.

Do you know anyone locally in the construction business that could haul for you? That's what I've done and it's worked well. I am having an 18 ft disc brought in soon (folds to 13 ft) and in the state of Pa you do need a permit from the Pa Dept of Transportation unless you want to stay off the 4 lane highways and travel between dawn and dusk.

Thanx for the leads...the first place I went was tractorhouse and logged into w/ some of those services/haulers. So far no one has bothered to call me back. Guess business must be really good! Ill give Landis a try and see where that goes. Didnt know it would be this much trouble. Guess if all else fails I can make an ad and see where that leaves me.

Just to follow up...Don Landis did a good job of getting me what I thought were reasonable prices and quick service. Hes not so good sometimes at communicating whats actually going to happen. As long as you know that going in it can be managed. I would do business w/ him again. Don brokered out both my jobs to the same hauler, JC Hobbs in Paris TN. I would HIGHLY recommend them, very good service! Hoober loaded my rake w/ a flat and when it arrived in Athens the driver got the tire off and had the Walmart tire guy working on it when I arrived! That was way above and beyond in my view. They usually use a low boy w/ ramps which saved me from getting someone else involved to unload. I backed my truck up on the trailer, snagged the rake and drove off. If youre interested I can give contact info for Hobbs.
