Ok, I have a very nice 3240 with a 48" deck to mow 2.6 acres minus the house, garage, driveways, and barn. Most of my property is hillside and the top part (about an acre and a half) was used for a horse pasture by the people before us.

I've been fairly regular with keeping the yard portion cut. The Cub does a great job and it takes about an hour and a half to mow and trim with a push mower. I mowed the top portion ONCE this year (we just bought the house in March) and have been trying to get to it ever since. My PTO belt broke--delayed it--had to work two Sat. in a row--delayed it--rain has delayed it. I have to wait until it is very dry up there due to the hill side. NOW THE GRASS AND WEEDS ARE 2-3 FEET HIGH!!!!!

I think I figured out how I'm going to keep up with it, but how should I cut it now? Was thinking of cutting it tomorrow with the deck at it's highest and coming back on Sunday and cutting it an inch lower. Then maybe one evening next week (or next weekend) lower, but is this going to be harsh on the tractor?

It shouldn't be too harsh, you just might have to mow a little slower.

Sumo,

My first suggestion would be to find someone with a brush hog, if that's a possibility.

The rental places have walk behind brush hogs that work pretty good too.

I've done grass that tall with a Cub, if you can just minimize the cut, say 15 to 20 inches width and discharge toward the cleared side, you can regulate the speed with the hydro so it doesn't load too much.

You go back and cut it a few days later to start mulching it up, you can get that done. But an acre and a half, depends on your patience?

Here's a pic of me mowin some pretty tall stuff with an 1862 I owned at one time. I only cleard maybe 1/4 acre, but it worked out just fine.

Thanks,

As long as it doesn't rain tonight (40% chance) I'll be giving it a whirl tomorrow!

Well it took all day--started around 11 and finished around 7 but it's cut. It needs recut and I think I may need a bigger tractor to take care of that part of my yard!

Sumo,

That was my story, I started with a Cub for the mowing chores and added the Ford compact with a three point to do the heavy lifting.

You really need another tractor my friend!
