So I finally got the finish mower hooked up and started mowing. 1 in pto, 2nd gear high in trans @ 2000rpm. Plenty of power but didn't take but 5 mins for it to start puking water. Pulled over to hose and sprayed through radiator and cooled it down a bit. Popped cap and added some water. After filling it again it looks like there is barely any flow. On a car you can really see the water moving after thermostat opens.
Should I see good flow? Maybe I have a bad water pump? 1503850145881.jpg

I don't think you have a thermostat. Never owned a 2000 but I know my old 2002D had a strong flow. I would think the 2000 should.

Flow or no flow,it's overheating so if you don't know what's causeing it take it to a mechanic without delay. I emphasize "without delay"because diesels will quicklyl self destruct from overheating. There are very few water cooled engines that don't use a t-stat.

"There are very few water cooled engines that don't use a t-stat." Yanmar made quite a few and even quite a few without water pumps.

I sure agree the overheating needs to be addressed.

No tstat and not a bad waterpump, unless the fan is into the radiator. Make sure the radiator fins are clear and back-flush the system.

How fast is it over heating 5 min blow out radiator fins with air if that dont help check the over flow bottle for bubbles could be a head gasket let us know what you find.

Compressed air is best for blowing out radiator.

Water just turns the dust/pollen stuff to mud like and it sticks on. It's gotta be dry, and blow it out with air.

If that don't do it,and radiator is clear...you ain't flowing water well enough. Could be pump, or could be cores in radiator plugged

Tried back flushing and it seems like it takes all the water hose pressure. Oil is clean so no blown head gasket.
Just doesn't seem to be enough flow. Water isn't moving much at 800 rpm. 1503874233904.jpg

I remember seeing on something one time where the propeller broke loose from the shaft on the pump. Just a thought. Wouldn't be hard to pull the pump and have a look.

Even draining the radiator will let you see what the cores look like . At least it will give you an idea . Could be plugged that bad.! :confused3:

If it was plugged then water wouldn't flow through it easily when back flushing

Most auto parts store has a tool rental. Ask for a Radiator Pressure Gauge Test Set. That way you will know what is going on with the pressure in the sys.. You should be on average around 15psi.. And that will pretty much tell you that the pump is working. Anything over 15psi. will most likely be a bad HG. Esp. if that pressure drops quickly when you shut it down. If water is not flowing through the radiator back flushing you may want to take it in and have a radiator shop go through it..

Blown head gaskets DON"T ALWAYS PUT WATER IN OIL or vs versa. There is a chemical meant to be mixed with coolant which change's color if exhust gas is present in cooling system.

How did you back-flush? In where, to out where?

1) These don't have a thermostat.

2) Compression pressure getting into the coolant will show as bubbles when you look in the filler. So if that doesn't appear and the oil is ok, then a head gasket moves down the list as a likely cause. I think a bad pump impeller is at the top of the list.

3) What is that blue gadget (with wires?) in the upper center of the photo?

"3) What is that blue gadget (with wires?) in the upper center of the photo?"

Good catch California, that may be the trouble area. That is some kind of add on. May just be for an added temperature gauge sender.

It's a plug in heater for the water. It also has a block heater. Gets pretty cold here in the winter and without it they won't start in winter when I need to blade the snow off the driveway.

Would it be possible for the heaters to block flow?? Just asking. :confused3:

Well I keep thinking that if the water flows good when back flushing then there isn't a blockage anywhere. Going to pull pump tonight.
