It is free registration, and is same as used by the Deere dealers to find part numbers. Registering will connect you with a dealer, but that isn't harmful and doesn't get in the way of looking up a Deere model.
I've found that dropping the alpha characters and just using numbers will get a list of all the models that contain that set of numbers. Like for an X485 just enter 485. As well, entering 850 will give a list that might include a side delivery rake, the 8500 disk tiller, and the 850 manure spreader. Going to the 850 compact tractor will give you a list of attachments, alphabetic index, pictorial index, and sectional index for sorting through. Truly an amazing resource for parts and knowledge of what is inside our tractors.
