Need help with tire chains

So I broke down and purchased 2sets of diamond pattern chains. I never have really messed much with chains so excuse my ignorance here. I got them on just fine, but when I connected the two top chains ( the ones holding the diamond pattern together) I noticed they had sent these odd d rings. The straight part of the d was a screw. I opened the screw put the chains together and wrenched them down. Well, long story short after thoroughly enjoying the new found traction on 45 degree slopes I returned to find a number of my d rings missing. Can you guys recommend something better?

D-rings mean different things to different folks ...pic or diagram? pointer to your chains or seller?

I think the D ring you are talking about has a threaded pin with an eye on top. I safety wire my D rings with the wire running through the eye.

Are you talking about shackles? If so I slightly modify them. On the pin I put an o-ring and on the outside of the non threaded hole I countersink it just a little bit. When you tighten the pin the o-ring squish out. I found a good place to buy them is Lowes, they have stainless ones for pretty cheap.

That's what we used on the log skidder chains. And tightened the crap outta them.

Well. I had them installed wrong to begin with. Ken Simolo provided me with pix that showed me what I was doing wrong. Yes... Clevis. I bought some replacements and re ran the chains. Found some chain tensioners and already broke one. Will run the safety wire.

Bungee cord tensioners work well & are about free. I run two on the inside (+) , & three on the outside. (*). They held up fine thru a naty winter here last year.
