Buying Advice need grapple..

/ need grapple.. #22
I never said anything about root grapples being totally unneeded...I just pointed out that all the tasks pictured (including large brush piles) in the thread could be accomplished with a much less expensive alternative...a thumb grapple...

What type of tractor allows you to see through the hood/engine/radiator etc. and see the back of the bucket? or are you referring to a skid steer ?

1) As I also pointed out, they could also be accomplished with a ratchet strap for <$10 - but that wasn't what this thread was about.

2) I never said I could see through the tractor - but I can see around it. I can't see through the back of the bucket.

I believe a bucket thumb is a useful tool, and can do many of the tasks we see root grapples doing. I also believe that root grapples can do it faster and better in many applications, and with a lower requirement of operator skill. As far as cost/benefit analysis, remember that most of us have to install third function plumbing either way. I could have saved roughly 40% overall, but lost about 200lbs of lift capacity and not been as satisfied with my choice. If I had a more powerful tractor, the priorities might be different.

It would not surprise me if EA sells more grapples this year than the total number of bucket thumbs sold in this country by all the vendors combined.
