01414_fIXg1bnwcxU_600x450.jpg00202_7cbvEtYGX6E_600x450.jpgI have an opportunity to pick up a 1940's, Not sure of exact year, Oliver 60 Tractor... Looks Pretty Clean, Runs Good, Everything Works... Price is $1,500... I Know NOTHING about Oliver's but this sounds like a Great Deal to me.
Any Input or advice & opinions of these tractors would be greatly appreciated. Any Problems they are known for or things to check out etc...Thanks, DanO'

Steal of a deal, it seems, going by the pictures.

Strange tread on right rear tire... neat!

That price is very reasonable. I have not heard of any weak points on these machines.

I don't know anything about Oliver's but it looks like a nice tractor!

I'm not certain but I believe the oliver 60 is strictly a pulling tractor. Pretty much no 3 point or rear PTO (I'm not certain though).

That pretty much limits you to running ground driven equipment trailer implements which if you are in the right area there are still plenty of them around and usually extremely cheap. Some trailer implements would be trip plow, manure spreader, trailer sickle mower, hay rake, and other type implements.

It's definitely a nice tractor for the price the thing looks like the only time it has spent outside is maybe at tractor shows.

There appears to be a PTO shaft in the last of the OP's photos.

Here's a photo of my 1945 Oliver 60. Paid $2250 for it about 5 years ago.

Had to reline the brake shoes due to leaking seals. Not a difficult job. The 60 is row crop tractor with bull gears (rear drive gears that are arranged horizontally rather than vertically).

The brakes are located behind the covers forward of the rear axles. Removal was something of a chore since the adjusters were rusted. Otherwise the job was easy. Used brake lining stock from McMaster Carr.

I sold it late last year. If I would have kept the 60, I would have replace all the electrical wiring (pretty standard for 60+ year old tractors).

I also owned a 1951 Farmall Super A.

Good luck and enjoy your 60.

Oliver has a good history and are a solid tractor . I grew up with 2 Super 88 diesels . When they finally wore out , Dad and Uncle Bob bought a brand new 4010 diesel JD . What a day when that was delivered ! That rr tire is what was called a closed tread . Popular when rubber became available . Goodyear , Firestone , not sure . Enjoy !

While it does not have 3-pt, it does have a mechanical lift which was used for front mounted row crop attachments. We had one when I was a kid which was either a '41 or early post-war. It was a solid tractor, used mostly for hay rake and baler (not PTO powered) pulling and general seed bed preparation.

I owned a Oliver Super 55 for many years , had a back blade and a Lorenz three point snow blower for it. It was a solid tractor and never let me down with the tasks i had for it.
