I need a 4" long pc. of 4" pipe, 3 1/2" ID. I need it to beef up my grader blade.
I can't find it anywhere on the internet, anyone know where I could order one?

try a boiler repair. They always have material left over from jobs.

4 inch long? See if there is a trailer fab shop in your area. That's scrap length. I've got a 3 foot section of that pipe (sched 40) that is rusting in my scrap barrel. Don't know what the shipping would be on a 4 inch by 4 inch box about 4 pounds I'd guess.

Did you try onlinemetals.com ? They have almost everything and you can order small pieces.

I can check at the fab shop tomorrow and see if there's any 3-1/2" Sch 40 steel pipe. That would measure 3.521" inside and 4" outside.

What town are you near?

Have you checked scrape yards?? Go to a plumbing place and they might have black pipe for gas lines. You could get a 6" or they might even have 4" nipple (What it's called is a nipple)

You're right chim, it is 3 1/2" pipe. That's not a common size. Thanks for your help but I don't want to put anyone out.
I can work around the pipe, do it a different way.

No big deal. I'll see what we have. We normally go from 3" to 4" and skip over 3-1/2" on both electrical and HVAC projects. I'll check the pipe shop first for black pipe. Electrical would be galvanized and would need cleaned off if it gets welded. We do have oddball stuff around.

I asked about your location because we have a project near Ashland and it wouldn't be a problem to toss it in one of our trucks if we have it. If 3-1/2" makes the project easier we can figure something out. Shouldn't be too many bucks to UPS it if all else fails.

Speedy Metals. They're happy to ship. Small quantities are fine. Can order right off their website. "I use them for all my small order needs"

$2.62/in: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

If you put in the comments that you want them to "cut exact" they will. Otherwise it comes 1/8" oversized.

Any company that installs chain link fence should have plenty of rems in that size, that's often used for terminal posts on larger gate installs. A good outfit should give you a small chunk along with a card just for the good will on future business.

If you're wanting 4" OD and 3.5" ID you're talking tubing,NOT PIPE.Speedymetals as the above poster suggested is where you get it.

Have a look at this link and scroll down to 3-1/2" Schedule 40 pipe. The OD is 4" and the ID is 3.521" which is only 21/1000 larger than the 3-1/2" he was looking for.

Alro.com has a very complete online store where you can buy whatever piece you need. With it being so short it can be shipped via UPS. They are my first and usually last stop when purchasing fab materials.

Alro is a amazing place. We use them to supply all sheet metal for our custom build duct work. Amazing inside. We usually have a trailer on going to get big pallets and if there is anything on like farm machinery people always flock to look at it and go through the doors for a smoke break

Sorry to hijack

I may have some in my scrap bucket. If I do you're welcome to it.

Absolutely! And I said it was schedule 40 pipe 5 minutes after he posted. I've been buying and using it since the mid 80's. This bickering for the sake of bickering is getting old. Enough. TIA

Maybe you're on his "ignore" list!

Perhaps. The place seems to have more idiots than when I first joined up which was about a year and a half before you. It was better, IMO, in those days. I read everyone's post and the entire thread before I respond to it. I think I can learn something from most anyone and usually do.

Fawken, I did read all the posts before making post# 12 and it was not my intent to cause a stir. I'm old and have a right to be confused. It's my fault I don't pay much attention to names of posters, and didn't realize you were the same guy who already said you had pipe that size in a previous post before screaming "NOT PIPE" in another:

"If you're wanting 4" OD and 3.5" ID you're talking tubing, NOT PIPE".

I was not talking about you, Chim. I was talking about the guy who said "NOT PIPE." I was agreeing with you. This is the problem with forums. So much is lost in the text and how it is interpreted. My point on this and a couple of other threads was this: The OP required a piece of pipe. He's already found two posters (or more) that have it. Problem solved. Now someone comes along and confuses the issue by saying it is not pipe which for future reference could cost someone some money. It is really a moot point, but I have (and I'll bet others do too) all kinds of weird steel specimens in my scrap barrel and I'd rather someone be able to use it rather than sell it for scrap.
