My wires are too damn short.

/ My wires are too damn short. #11
I am replacing an old floodlight setup on the side of my house with a bigger LED light. The problem is after removing the old fixture, I realized the wires coming from the house are not long enough to reach into the new fixture. I was thinking of putting a junction box where the old light was and running wires from there to the new light.

Any better ideas out there?

Thanks
Dave

As mentioned, just solder on (properly) some new wire long enough to make the needed run and shrink wrap the soldered connections.

I would not solder it; there are many jurisdictions that no longer allow it due to the problems with insulating the splice sufficiently.

I would use new wire nuts for the correct wire gauge totals. Pretwist the wires, and then put the wire nut on. I prefer the versions that have "ears" for easier tightening. YMMV...

All the best, Peter

If you're going to put a new junction box in, why not fit it a bit lower and add an external power socket

Do you have a picture or link for the new light?

Who's going to inspect it?....(???)
Reminds me of where my brother lives they have an HMO. He puts up a swingset for kids and they immediately make him have it painted "HMO green"!
He recently put his old sofa out for trash pickup and a neighbor called the police!
As far as insulation goes...so put 4-5 layers on it!

I meant it more as an example of "this method has been discontinued for cause", and one might not want to go there. It is his wiring, and he can do what he wants in my opinion.

All the best,

Peter
