My wires are too damn short.

I am replacing an old floodlight setup on the side of my house with a bigger LED light. The problem is after removing the old fixture, I realized the wires coming from the house are not long enough to reach into the new fixture. I was thinking of putting a junction box where the old light was and running wires from there to the new light.

Any better ideas out there?

Thanks
Dave

Your idea is the best to code idea, splices are supossed to be inside a junction box.

I went to Lowes and purchased a junction box and cover.

I picked up some In-Sure® Push-In Wire Connectors.

I used a 12" length of MC wire cable. (Three wire with covered ground) and some clamps to finish the job. Is it totally waterproof, No. It's on the north side of the house under a 2' overhang. I have never seen that area get wet.

I also turned off the power. 😁

Personally, I see that as a good install with the 2 foot roof overhang.

I always got a kick out of inspectors who would write a correction notice on an installation like this. Inspecting to the letter of the code, instead of the intent of the code. It takes just a little discernment to see you got it right, some individuals lack this ability.

Nice! Just FYI, you might want to paint the armored cable. It isn't super water resistant, and condensation can cause it to rust after a bit, at least around here.

All the best,

Peter
