Also it just snowed here yesterday and the rt 104 east corridor is still snow covered .Oh we do!! Its just so much nice to ride right out of the garage every night then to trailer some place on the weekends. Trailer-ing gets old quick and expensive.. We do ride out of our cottage in Fair Haven, 104...
Kid on the way, so re-doing the entire upstairs, floor to ceiling gutting, New walls, electrical, insulation, drywall, etc... So that consumes most of my weekends.

Thanks, I really wanna get this done and off the list.. Probably won't paint until the srping, wanna take the whole plow apart to sand blast it / paint up all pretty nice...
Curious to see if this little JD cyclinder can create a little down pressure when plowing. This plow is pretty light in terms of plows, so hoping i can get some down pressure. Or i can always add a little wieght to it.
Picked up some extenders, 80 bucks for two 3 foot lines with all the connects.. Man i forgot how much these lines cost. Really thin lines for this JD angle kit, but rated for 3250 psi..

The problem!
One I welded the brackets so we would have some down pressure and would get the plow about 5 inches of the ground. I forgot to take into account that my garage floor has a really big pitch in the center of the garage. It high, so it pitches to the two drains in the floor.
After i got everything welded up took i out to the drive way and it would come up about 7 inches, but wouldn't go down far enough to hit the drive way.. LOL
Options:
One get another longer piston, easy, but expensive.
Two re-adjust the bracket mounts, not to hard, but I am worried i won't get enought lift out of the small 6" reach of the cylinder.
Three re-locate the cylinder and set it up like all other plows, with a chain lift. It will give me the extra lift i need out of the lever action. But will loose down pressure.
I think i am going to do option three, but instead of a chain, use steel tubing. This should allow me to get some down pressure as well. (in THERORY)
So now i gotta look at getting a pressure relief valve to put in as well. I really like how KennyD had his plow setup with that down pressure, can really scrap down when he wants too.

Hey jd2305cd. It looks like you are coming along nicely with your plow. Since this is on a tractor, speed will not be that great of a factor, I would relocate the mounting brackets so you could use downpressure. Being able to put a little pressure will help compensate for the lighter weight of the plow and reduced speed vs. say a truck mounted plow. Normally you will plow in the float position, but sometimes on something this size, a little pressure could really help out.
I finished mine last night about midnight and it actually works! I know how well everybody including likes pictures, so here they are.
Keep us posted on your progress. I am really curious to see how it all looks finished.

I personally would not worry about the down pressure. I am not so sure this plow can handle it anyway. I would stay with the common chain lift. Using a pipe instead of the chain will end up bending something.

I'm with Diamondpilot on the down pressure. That tube frame of the plow doesn't look like it would handle the weight of your tractor front end very well. But you have a better feel for that, than I can from just pics.
Yeah i am still on the fence, my buds gun hoe about trying it..
Worse case i can alway switch to a chain lift. The fram is not heavy heavy duty, but should be able to handle a lil down pressure. Still on the fence..

When using the bucket this year i really haven't even needed an ballast yet, I have been impressed with the lil 2305 and what she can move. She'll move some monster piles even with my cute lil turf tires.. I do like that wieght setup though..

Thanks for the compliment on the plow. I was trying to duplicate the factory set up as close as possbile.

The tractor has plenty of power, just not enough travel in the cylinder as I wanted ground clearance instead of down pressure. I definately would not suggest you build enough down travel to raise the front end, just enough to give a little pressue over what the weight of just the plow will provide. . I plowed snow commercially for over 15 years, so I have lots of experience with using very heavy truck plows and all of them used a chain for lift and have no down pressue at all. Either way, I think you can't go wrong.

Bigger is better right.. I am leaving as is for now, make that call when we get some deep snows piled up.. Have to see how she does first..

Your other option (4) Is to move your mount point on the lower mount closer to the tractor, further from the blade. In your bottom picture, that would be to the left, closer to the pivot point. That will give you more travel.
I have the same blade and I think it's perfect for a small tractor like my Kubota 1830. But, it is light. Good thing for moving it around the garage & mounting. Not so good for plowing. Every now & then, I wish I had a little down pressure.

I went out and picked up a 2x8 cylinder, should be able to do the trick and i think it will be a lil more responsive. That other cylinder had 1/4 inch lines, was very sluggish for this setup. I am sure i'll find another use for it.
So tomorrow i hope to get the new one installed, I think i'll move the mount point back a lil like you said Jimmer. Hopefully wrap this up before the snow starts flying on wednesday..

Great - glad I could help. Moving it closer to the pin should increase the speed. The more acute the angle, the quicker it becomes, but you loose power (Something I doubt you'll miss on a snow plow). On one of my older tractors, the angle was (guessing) around 30deg. when closed. That was on a small (about 2" bore) cylinder, and had plenty of snuff to pick the front wheels off of the ground on the little Yanmar 155d (15 hp diesel).

Now you may just find out that the new cylinder raises the blade too fast. Will be interested to hear how it works for you.
