Why not just take a smaller cut? Must not be a heavy duty or it would likely pick yo the front end of your tractor.
I just got a working 6' bush hog for free. I eventually will get a nice one and want a 4'. For now, can I just cut one foot off of each blade and use it as a four footer so I do not stress the tractor?
As little to no blow by as possible is what you want. That vent is just a direct passage into the crank case. Any combustion gasses that get blown by the rings as "blowby" ends up in the crank case and that vent is there so that the crank case does not become over pressurized. Some slight blow by and a drip every blue moon is normal. There is a lot of rotating mass in there and oil getting slug all over like a hurricane in there. It should not look like a little exhaust pipe blowing diesel exhaust out of it. But if it does have a slight wisp of smoke out of it its no big deal they will run for a long time even with minor blow by.Yeah understood - was just curious I guess.
On a new note - I have noticed in some videos of Yanmars running that the crankcase vent tube seems to have a little smoke coming out of it. I do not believe mine does. Is it supposed to always vent something, or OK if I do not see anything coming out? How can I check to make sure my vent tube is not plugged/clogged?
I also pulled my exhaust manifold off and it was pretty "dirty" like oil or sooty water. Kinda what you would expect in a diesel manifold I guess?

I have not even seen it yet - picking up tomorrow AM. Was more so worried about stress on the clutch due to starting/stopping such a large radius/diameter blade.
Tube clear, no blow by!
Water pump installed and temp is LOW at around 170-180 after 20 min at any RPM!
Is it ok to run around 1800-2000 RPM now that I have a water pump?
