Muffler replacement "glitch"

Been putting bandaids on my muffler for some time now and seeing I needed to order a new tie rod end from Hoye anyway, thought I'd give the Yannie a treat and get him a new muffler. As you've probably guessed by now, even after 4 days of soaking with PB Blaster, ALL the mounting studs broke ! Going to town for helicoils and studs but not sure of the size. I think M8 ? but not sure. Any idea??

Yes, those studs can be a pain. They are M8x1.25 thread

should have used kroil oil, put it on mine for a week and backed out the bolts with a 3/8 ratchet, surprised me they came out so easy .

I'm a firm believer and user of Kroil too. In a pinch, if you are out of Kroil, a 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone works just about as well. Must be stored in a metal or glass container though.

I was able to get it done yesterday. After cleaning away the rust from around what was left of the broken studs, I was able to get the vise grips on the 2 innermost studs and work them out successfully. Had to drill out the other 2. One went fine and of course the last one was a mess, so only needed to use 1 helicoil. Easy to do on the bench. I was really surprised how easily the manifold came off. Thought I'd be breaking studs there too, but they came right off with no hassle whatsoever.
