A while ago, someone posted regarding the fact that they never seemed to find anything in their Mr. Funnel, wondering if it was worth the bother of using the thing.

I suggest you pour some diesel through it when it's cold out, like I did this past week. I had never before noticed any water with my fuel, but when it was cold, the screen clogged with ice crystals and the flow was much slower.

So apparently the funnel works as advertised, but unless you have a lot of water in your fuel, you won't notice it collecting since it adheres to the screen most of the time instead of dripping down into the reservoir area.

Was that water or waxed fuel? It looks about the same and they both melt at about the same temperature.

I thought the Mr. Funnel claim to fame was that the screen was treated with hydrophobic material so that water couldn't pass. (Similar to the effect Gore-Tex (R) has with water)

I'm pretty sure it was water. I get my fuel 5 gallons at a time and the distributor treats it for winter temperatures. Our temperatures have been up and down enough that there could easily have been some condensation in the pour spout despite it being capped. The crystals were on the outside of the screen, and large enough to partially block the flow.

Well, good thing you used your Mr Funnel!
