Moving Equipment Long Distance

I was talking to a hot shot trucker a while ago. Somewhere around 20,000 lbs was his cutoff. Anything bigger, and you will need a semi.

Your list above should be OK, if it can get distributed on the trailer OK. Big wedge trailer?

We have places saved as our relief motels at about the 12 hour mark either going or coming. And yes, depending on what our load is that trip, or type of trailer we are using, security is a worry. So far we've done the 18 hour drive 3 legs, and a stop on three legs. The stop usually just doesn't do me much good, I usually don't sleep well anyway. And yes, finding a place with decent parking isn't easy either, I'm towing with a cap on the truck so even with a backup camera getting out of a tricky spot can be ... well, tricky.

I've got to go out this weekend and measure all the equipment and see if I can look up the weights on the implements to get a shipping quote. I'm guessing from the short lead time for hotshot I can wait till a month before my date to get a quote.
You might want to get your ducks in a row, and then watch the spot freight prices on u-ship or somewhere and wait for a lull in the shipping to get a good rate, or even identify a preferred shipper now, and let the shipper do it when they have down time, at a lower rate to you. Some times you can finagle it, some times not.

All the best,

Peter

That may be a point that any trucker will want 2-way trips. So, if they have a trip from Tennessee to New York, they may well want to pick up a load from New York to Tennessee, and time both trips together.

Of course a lot will depend on whether there is load/unload assistance at both ends of the trip. It would take a special relationship with a driver to expect vehicles to be unloaded and parked in a locked barn without assistance.

I plan on being present for both loading and delivery. I'll be hauling a load down at the same time, and hopefully beat the truck down. Will be away from the property about a week at a time during the move, it's very rural and I have a few friends there now that will keep an eye on the place. And I have cameras so I can call the police after everything is gone :)
Hoping loading an unloading will only be a 30 minute ordeal. Should be able to drive everything onto the trailer .. although I'll have to hook up a few implements and then drop them off on the truck and bring others up.

I think that sounds like a good strategy. I also prefer to be present for the load/unload to catch damage(s), unless the items have been strapped to pallets.

GPS trackers and air tags are getting pretty cheap, and might be worth it for the tractors. They have been covered here extensively on other threads

After some continuing research it looks like a hot shot hauler with a step deck trailer should do the job. They run 45-50 feet long including a 10 foot upper deck, handle weights anywhere from 10,000 to 20,000. My 1715 and Kubota are 25' nose to tail, that should leave plenty of room for the rest.

I'm hoping a local tractor dealer will have some business cards for hauler they work with that are based in my area. Figure if they are local it's one less variable for them getting to my pickup point on time.

Call Dave Wood at Maplewood Ice. He does hauling on the side and may be interested in your job. He's a great guy, very reliable.
