Similar issue on my Peruzzo flail. If I leave the toplink in float & the 3pt lifts the PTO shaft can rub. Thought about a similar solution myself. I tend to run heavy gear, so am rather concerned about strength.
Raising the pin location on the implement might be easier and won't have any effect on the hitch. I didn't think of that approach before I went this way.

The cross beam of the quick hitch was interfering with the PTO shaft angle with my snow blower so I am using Pat's Quick Hitch instead.
