I loaned my tractor to a friend for two weeks (rule number one, never loan equipment). Anyhow, I picked the tractor up and took it to the next job where I encountered a problem with it idling down, almost choking out... I have fuel, and the engine was running just a few minutes before. The solenoid pops in and out and the glow plug indicator functions like always. Please offer any suggestions as I need to put my tractor on a trailer and get it undercover.

Check your fuel tank. Make sure your friend didn't refuel your tractor with gasoline:eek:

Check for water in fuel system and it is possible that it was run out of fuel so you may need to bleed the air out of the fuel lines.

Is there any problem with using ether to see if it fires up?

It is not recommended but I have done it. Just be careful how much you use. the less the better

Today I verified that there was current to the glow plugs and ruled out water in the fuel. Still a little aprhensive about the ether. A friend suggested pulling each plug to verify good heat and warned not to hold with bare hands. Any thoughts on this??

Check the air intake make sure it is clear. Also need to see if you are getting fuel to the engine/injectors. Loosen up an injector line and see if fuel is being pump up to it. May need to bleed the fuel system.

A safer , but not as sure fire as ether, is to wet a rag with gas and hold it in front of the air intake while cranking. It has worked for me.

Today I pulled each glow plug and noticed some oil residue, but when hooked to the battery charger each golwed red after 15-25 seconds. In the exhaust I could hear promising popping but the engine still would not crank. Any suggestions or thoughts on this dilemma... Thanks!
