The one we got is the dell mini 10 with XP. I dislike the touchpad, and use a mouse instead. Depending on what I'm doing, it runs about 2 maybe 3 hours on the basic internal battery. I think there is an optional battery with longer life.

I run Audacity on it every week. It's fast enough for capturing audio, but it takes a while to run audio compression on a file. I capture the audio, save the file to a usb drive, and then use the desktop to work on editing and effects processing.

I might boot it in Ubuntu with the usb drive just to see what happens.

+ one, for the Acer, I bought my wife one about a year ago and it is great. She is on a business trip (over thanksgiving, it stinks) so I can't get the specs. I bought it thru tigerdirect for around $200. Has worked great. I used to be a dell guy, but these mini's were not really dells gig, so I started checking around and it seems that acer is pretty big in the mini's and one of the first.

I bought one of the Dell mini's for a friend for her birthday. I didn't think she would like the touchpad and got a wireless mouse for her. So far, she loves it, works well for her usage.

picke dup an asus netbook today from best buy for 299$

1.6 atom/1g ram/160g hdd.. 10.1" screen.. looks like a decent machine. has sd slot and 3 usb ports as well as external vga port, network port and N wireless.

I returned it today. I decided to go with a full sized laptop, so the search is back on.....windows 7 is a prerequisite.

plenty of ones out there cheap.. I got a notebook for work the other day.. was 299$ for 3gig ram, dvd burner, network card, wireless N, model, usb ports celeron processor.. etc.
