I've been dreaming of building a mini tub grinder.
Part of our family business is growing produce. With the crappy clay soils in southern NC we need a lot of compost each year. We try to make our own with the help of some landscapers dropping off their shredded leaves. I do landscaping as well and bring home all of my brush/clippings from our jobs.
It would really help cut composting time in half if I could run my shrub trimmings and small sticks through a tub grinder to make a mulch out of the clippings. a "real" diesel tub grinder USED would cost $25K+ for a 15 year old unit....that's out of the picture.
I have a spare kubota D1105T sitting in my shop. I've been thinking of making a small tub grinder with this kubota engine. I don't need a 150hp machine like landfills have and I don't need a 5hp unit like Home Depot sells. I think this Kubota engine I have is a good start.
Anyone know if someone sells plans online for building a unit? I think having a 5 ft. X 5 ft. tub would work out well. My tractor has a 4ft bucket on it, so loading would have a little wiggle room. I just worry about the spinning parts of the blade assembly grenading and coming towards the tractor operator. I also have a spare honda GX 160 engine in the shop that I can use to spin the tub around if necessary to help feed the brush/clippings down to the blades
