Maybe if indoctrination and education are mutually-exclusive, so "not really" most of the time. Working alone I taught my son right from wrong, to have a conscience, and to treat others well. I left his religious and political indoctrination to him and the public school World he grew up in.

We have to give kids credit where due for learning some things at their own pace, and show patience when they appear to digress form our norms and personal teachings.

Something along those lines.

I was prejudiced against home schooling. I would not want to do it and thought most parents would muck it up. I met several parents whose homeschooled children did very well. One went to the Air Force academy another to an Ivy league school. Others were were polite and well behaved. Now I think they might be performing better than the average student.

At least 99% of the ones I know do.

Reminds me of hunters given permission to hunt private land then trying to police adjoining properties as though permission included all he could see.

One guy asked me WTF I was doing hunting 'there' .. in my own back yard. He was a pal of my neighbors BF and not from around here either. He wasn't wearing hunter orange and I told him he looked more like a deer every time I saw him without it. (just that once) He hasn't been back.

See, that is the problem. It's OK for your personal beliefs to be taught with no respect for others personal beliefs. Maybe I don't want my children believing the same as your children.

That's the rub. My kids weren't "indoctrinated" at college. They were "indoctrinated" by all of their life experiences, just as I was. There comes several times in an adult's life when they should question their experiences, what they believe in, what they don't, what they should stand up for and what they should condemn. Then they should adjust their behavior as necessary.

And that is different than my children how? I'm a firm believer in God, yet my children never saw the inside of a church. When they saw me reading the Bible and asked a question, I gave them my opinion. When we moved to South Carolina and they had never seen a black child before, we taught them they were the same as them. When they went to college for "higher education", that is exactly what they received. Our children were raised to question, learn, and find their own truth; much like what you just described. I would never imprint my own beliefs on them. And don't think they don't get the old man's advice often.. But, I certainly hope and pray they find the happiness in life I have.

Are you somehow construing that I'm arguing with you???

Closing threads is respectful to those that posted as opposed to Deleting threads...

TBN is generous when it comes to expanded discussion and often makes for interesting reads...

When I dance, I might as well dress in full Bozo. The adults don't notice me and the kids giggle.

And the same ones get yet another thread closed. Can't any of you take the high road? Nope. It's pretty simple.... STOP INSULTING EACH OTHER.
