I just bought a GC1723 with the drive over mid mount mower. I love the tractor but the mid mount mower wont go low enough. Right now at its lowest setting it is still cutting the grass 8 inches high. I have adjusted the cut height knob to no avail. Any ideas?

I have a 2310 with the "plain" MMM, but I suspect operation's nearly the same. Yes, there is an initial height adjustment, but here's a couple things to check out:

Look in the back to ensure there's nothing preventing the two 3-point hitch (3PH) arms from being able to drop all the way down; the mower drop and the 3PH drop are on the same system. Also check to see that both mower controls are in proper position, both the height adjustment and the drop speed control. (If the drop speed control is totally closed, that will also hold the MMM in the up position.)

Thanks I will check to make sure my 3 point arms aren’t restricted. Both knobs are adjusted correctly; for 3 point lower speed and mower cut height.

I think your tractor has a mower lock in the up position so the three point can be used without the mower going up and down. You can probably find that information in your owners manual. Eight inches sounds about right for the cut height when the mower is in the locked up position on a scut.

If you have the drive-over 2326 MMM, then you have to make a decision: the heavy duty drive over mower is designed to use the caster wheel pin settings as the cutting height adjustment (there is a label with a height guide on the deck) versus the tractor's suspension system. Are your casters set to the tallest configuration? As for the on-tractor adjustment knob: Bring the mower to the FULL UP position, then set to position 1 (lowest/shortest), then lower it down (it should practically touch a level surface IF the casters are retracted).

Both knobs are off of the lock up position. The mower deck raises and lowers. It just doesn’t lower enough to cut low enough.

When attempting to raise and lower mow deck does it actually move? Believe raise/lower of mow deck is similar to 3PH, "hydraulic power" lifts mow deck/3PH and gravity lowers mow deck/3PH, I suggest you verify linkages of mow deck for incorrect latch up or a bind in linkages....

Yes it moves up and down. It just doesn’t travel down far enough. It travels all the way up when I raise it.

You are absolutely sure the lift lock is disengaged? Even when mine is locked up, it moves about an inch or two when I try and lower it.

Did you try opening the valve for the fall speed a little?

Yep the lift lock is completely off. I am 1,000% sure of that. I will try opening up the lift speed valve some more. The deck does lift and lower about 8 inches or so, so its working. Its just not lowering all the way to the ground.

Thats weird. Where do your 3PT lifting arms go when you lower it? Are they contacting anything? Do you have a backhoe attached?

Did change tire size?

So you lower it 8 inches, and it's still 6 or so inches off the ground?

Boy, ya got me! I have no idea. Please do let us know when you get it figured out -- a real head-scratcher, this one!

Have you ever had it off the machine? As a drive over deck, it must be able to go to the ground somehow. If you have not had it off and it does not go to the ground on flat, level ground, I'd suggest a call to the dealer.

Added thought, do the gauge wheels go to the ground but not the cutting deck? If that's the case, you should be able to adjust the gauge wheels.

I just can't believe it is sitting that high - please provide a photo index.jpg

I don'y have my Massey Ferguson 2326 mower deck manual with me, but I know some mowers have a stack of washer shims to adjust the blade height at the spindles. Maybe this applies here? I'll have to look when I get home to verify.

I will have a chance to look some more at the mower after work Thursday. Its a brand new tractor so I am thinking it may just be an adjustment issue. Its just odd since the deck does go up and down ok. Its just has limited downward travel.

The only things that could limit the downward travel are PTO lift arms impeded (if they can't drop, mid-mount can't either) - something underneath the mower deck - mid-mount suspension improperly adjusted.

I just thought I would post an update. I had a chance to look at it more tonight and sure enough one of the hoses for the backhoe was restricting how far down the rear 3 points arms could go. Once I fixed that the deck dropped right down to where it should be. Now if this rain would stop long enough for me to go try it out I would be in business!
