Tractor
mf 1533
When running the tractor, the fuel bowl empties and the tractor stops running. With fuel pump off the bowl fills up. Also, if I clamp the line that returns to the tank from the near the injectors the bowl stays full, and the tractor runs. What is wrong? Cleaned tank, changed filter, and blew out lines. Please Help!!!!!!!!!

Rubber hoses falling apart inside?

Does it have a hose from the top of the filter base going up to a tee in the return line from injectors to tank? if so, pinch that line off and try things again. See what difference that makes.

yes that is what I have done to make it work. When doing that, the bowl stays full and the tractor runs.

So do what I do in that situation. Snip the hose a few inches from each end. Put a screw, small bolt, or a piece of rod into each of the short ends to plug them off. Go back to work.

But what causes this?

I'm not really sure, but I suspect it's a combination of things related to fuel traveling from the tank to the filter base. I never see it in newer tractors, only once they get some age on them. Is it build up inside the fittings, lines, ETC, something actually in the tank affecting fuel flow? I don't know if it's always the same cause, just that it's usually the same result. Fuel doesn't flow fast enough from the tank and the filter base can actually draw air in from the return line above through the (supposed) vent hose which affects the supply out of the filter to the pump.
