Message Board Pet Peeve.

Yup could be a lot of things like a new member with a week of free time trying to get to know every one. This is a good place for that with a lot of friendly folks to talk to. I am always vexed by those who worry so much about what the other fellow is doing. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif oops did my count go up ? darn it. Can I get a reverse counter measure ? Dave

/ Message Board Pet Peeve. #42
Yeah - the best thing is that your counter is changed on all of your posts. Go back to your first post - there is no proof that you were ever a newbie!

Maybe some people are jealous since the payment received "per-post" is so much higher for Gold, Platinum and Veteran members! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

/ Message Board Pet Peeve. #43
No kiddin you get paid more ! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I better get busy posting posts for the post watchers to post their chagrinned postings about. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif if I mention POST does my counter go up ? As to the number of posts one accumulates, I can certainly attest to the fact that if you're new to all of this as I was when I found this forum you can tally a rather high number with all the questions you have and all the clarifications you need early on.

Personally, I grew up a city boy and my only experience with a tractor was on my uncle's knee over forty years before. I've now learned enough here to have a fair grasp of how little I know and how much there is to learn. I've logged a couple thousand posts and would bet after you deduct the "Nice job" type and looked at the rest you'd find the vast majority are me asking and trying to learn things.

As to the number of posts listed, I'm almost embarrassed by my number because it would look to some like I'd be a good one to ask a question or have some level of knowledge that I really don't. The flip side is that I'm very proud to be a member here and that only increases with each post I make and read. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

my pet peeve is when someon asks a very general question, but tells you nothing about themselves i.e how much land, soil type, ect. and they expect everyone else to know already. i realize people are new, but my vitals are in my profile.

Ah yes, the old "I want a tractor I'm not sure what for what kind do I get?" question! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That and when you ask for information they won't give it or never answer back. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Well, my pet peeve is when someone replies to a post but changes the title of the post. When the "new" post is listed in the main index, you think it is a new post, until you open it and find out the name has been changed.

I just find that very frustrating, and really don't understand the reasoning behind it. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I can't, for the life of me, see how some guys are registered here for let's say 2 or 3 months (maybe even less) and have so many posts to their credit. Now either they are writing profusely or possibly just entering those cheapie posts (as someone has already mentioned) to increase their 'Post Meter'.
Honestly now, registered 1 month and >350 posts. What's up with that?

When I first started here, I lurked for months, then finally registered and let loose with the questions.... lots of questions... lots and lots of questions.....

That was two years ago this Sunday. I've since settled down, having had most of my questions answered, and purchased my tractor using the information I gathered here as the basis for my purchase. I have averaged 3 posts a day for the last 2 years. In the beginning, I averaged about 10 posts a day, so 300 posts in a month or so doesn't surprise me.

As for pet peeves about message boards, I don't have any to mention, as TBN and CBN are the only ones that I use on any kind of regular basis. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Great bunch of people, here.

'Honestly now, registered 1 month and >350 posts. What's up with that?'

Several members were "lost" in the crash last month and after signing up again, were able to get credit for previous post totals I believe. That may be the case, (or it may not).

I agree. I would also like to know why some folks thinks that they need to change the title when they respond to a thread. That has really been on my hit list for sometime now. Like you said, it is very confusing.

My biggest pet peeve is when people post a specific brand question in the "Buying/Pricing" forum. Muhammand has specifically mentioned this time and time again.

Well, as internet forums go there is not much to be peeved about here /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

But I'll admit, the "use Search" is sometimes not helpful, here or anywhere else.

For example, sometimes I have already used Search, read what I could find, but think others might have more answers. New users arrive every day, sometimes I want a "second opinion", maybe even a third.

As for post counts, I couldn't care less. Over the years I have found them to be indicative of nothing /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif If someone wants to pad theirs, make my day.

But, I have to throw my lot in with the "check your PM" messages, I don't think those are appropriate. But then I understand if you are trying to contact someone, it can be frustrating if they never check for PMs.

To repeat, this board is easily the best-behaved I've ever seen. So kudos to us!

JerryG, I agree 100%. I sometimes lose track of entire threads because someone changed the title. The title should be locked.

Mohammad,

Bringing up an old subject once again. Will you revisit my suggestion that new users have their PM notification by e-mail set to "Yes"?

Once again a new user seems to have a problem with this system. I told him in a thread that I had sent him a PM, and he picked it up and responded. I replied to his response, and after 2 days he still hasn't read it.

I think it's possible that he hasn't logged on in those 2 days, but since he has a new tractor on order, I would imagine that he is reading and reviewing old and new posts. Most likely, he doesn't "see" or recognize the flashing envelope for what it is. And since he doesn't know to turn on the e-mail notification, he doesn't know that he has a PM waiting.

If this was the first time this had happened, I wouldn't bother bringing it up again. But this makes at least 4 times - all with relative newbies. My apologies to the new member in question if he is on top of this, but I think the point is still valid.

ps - If you don't want to discuss this in an open forum - send me a PM. I'll have my e-mail notification set to Yes. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

( During a discussion someone makes a post that says, "<username>, I sent you a Private Message". Uh, don't you think the person receiving the P.M. will know that when it arrives? No need to inform the general population of your "special" message.

)

You never called back twice ???????? Sure you did, and they told you, "Oh, I forgot and was just going to". Think about it!

With all these threads it's easy to miss or forget something. That is just a reminder for the recipient.

It's not a "special" message, your just not part of that conversation!!! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Feel free to write your own Pet Peeves -- You can try and explain all you want, my list still stands for what bothers me.
