Delete cookie to keep from getting a virus???? My Norton does that for me, and I can keep my cookies. Man as much as I use my computer, I would be busy deleteing all the time.

re: PM notifications

I have sent PM's before that were never read! If someone agrees to receive PM's, I think that the e-mail notification should be turned on by default. If someone doesn't want e-mail notification, let them turn it off. That flashing envelope doesn't work for someone who isn't looking for it. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

On the same subject, I read where Microsoft is studying the idea of doing operating system fixes automatically, instead of relying on the user to opt in. Sounds like a good idea for all of those worm-infested users out there. If you are intelligent enough to understand how the update system works, and want to control it yourself, then opt out. For the rest of the masses, how about just letting Big Brother take care of you? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Enough of my rant. I also get peeved by people bringing up the same old subjects time and again. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Dave,

I sent you a PM (my apologies to everyone who is peeved by this redundant and very public notification), and you should now have a flashing envelope next to the Main Index link near the top of the page.

Actually deleting the cookies doesn't prevent any viruses (viri?) - that's more for privacy protection. I do it via a DOS batch file that I run that deletes all cookies from the subdirectory as well as all TMP files and any extensions off of the TEMP subdirectory.

You should take a look in your cookie subdirectory sometime if you never have; it's surprising how many cookies can get in there without your knowledge.

It took 2 attempts to correctly time hitting Alt-Print Screen in order to 'catch' the envelope! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I agree with cowboydoc, /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif for once /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif, when a person posts a picture of their latest project or new tractor or such as that I think it is totally appropriate to congratulate them or tell them nice job or great looking tractor. They often bought or accomplished the project or whatnot using info from this board and they are posting it because they want our affirmation and such as that. It is just plain being friendly and nothing else. I also don't think people who post pictures and things are showoffs. They are excited or proud and it could be a huge accomplishment for them and they want to share their excitement /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. J

Well, I'm not worried about cookies, I have a 80 Gig hard drive, so can't see as it will hurt anything. Now spy ware, I use adaware to clean it every once in a while as that is what gets into your privacy, and tells them about you. Don't think cookies can do that, it just makes it easier to get around on your computer. Of course I am one of those guys that format probably at least once a year anyway, and start all over, to get rid of anything that I don't think should be there. So I guess my cookies are gone for a few hours anyway. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

( I think this is all part of what makes TBN so great. )

I believe you have taken my Peeves the wrong way. I did not mean it to posts regarding someones work, projects, tractors, etc.

It was aimed at some of the run-of-the-mill posts that could be a joke, a link to a website, or something like that and the response does not add any value to the thread.

I've seen some posts where all the response is a smilie face, or "Cool", "LOL", etc. I feel that those type of responses are really unneccessary. Telling someone they did a great job, or you wish you had thought of doing it that way is totally fine with me.

I hope this clears the air.

Well talking about pet peeves I might as well sound off with something that's been bugging me for awhile.
I can't, for the life of me, see how some guys are registered here for let's say 2 or 3 months (maybe even less) and have so many posts to their credit. Now either they are writing profusely or possibly just entering those cheapie posts (as someone has already mentioned) to increase their 'Post Meter'.
Honestly now, registered 1 month and >350 posts. What's up with that?

/ Message Board Pet Peeve. #38
You mean pot shot posts that are generally unpleasant and serve no purpose other than to be antagonistic and insult others ? I noticed that your meter went up by one with that very informative and ohhhh so well thought out post /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I think my newest pet peeve is those who really have nothing better to do or say other than count the number of another posters posts. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Dave

/ Message Board Pet Peeve. #39
I used to wonder about that myself. But then I thought, if someone has the time, lack of things to do, etc. to put up 300 posts in a month, it ain't hurting anyone.
If they need that to make themselves happy, well you get the picture. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

/ Message Board Pet Peeve. #40
I'll add one of those kind of posts to it Dave. And say maybe they are all alone and lonesome. And no one to talk to. You never know it might be.
