Measuring for box blade

I got my rotary cutter, found a deal on a 2022 RCR1260. Now I’m looking for a box blade. I read you want the box wider than the rear of tractor in order to cover tracks. I’ve seen a lot of 5’ box blades on Kioti CK2620’s. When I measure my rear tire width,from outside to outside, total width is 63-64” so would I need a 66” or a 72”? I got a good lead on a killer deal for a 60” but don’t want to regret it. I have a 2023 Kioti CK2620 with R14 tires.

Big advantage to cover your tracks?

If your BB is much narrower than your tire spread, and you pull in one alley repeatedly, your tires will soon be up on narrow ledges and the centered BB will not touch the ground.

Tractor tire weight will mash down minor differences of 1" to 1-1/2" per side.

In the attached photo, two years old, the 60" wide community burn pit is now 40" below grade. You can't do below grade work like this if your Box Blade is narrower than tractor's tire spread.

Your CK2620 has a bare weight of 2,650 pounds, motivated by <25 horsepower.

All things being equal, which they seldom are, a 66" wide Box Blade will amply challenge your tractor.

I have a Bush Hog 720 ROBB. Pulled behind my Kubota M6040. The rear tires are 80 inches - outside to outside. I've used it several times to move dirt and dig trenches. I could see a problem if I wanted a trench just 72 inches wide. The ROBB is 72 inches wide.

However - I've never been in that situation. The only "trenches" I've ever dug are MUCH wider than 72 inches. Actually they are open pits used to bury trash. My ROBB works just fine for this.

So....... The simple answer. Since your rear tires are 63" or 64" wide - digging a 60" wide deep trench will be a problem. If you need a deep trench - it's going to have to be as wide as your rear tires. A shallow trench - 60" will be OK.

Don't over think this. Buy a box blade that will cover your tires. Your tractor is capable to do the work.
