Maybe a Step 'Backwards', But Handy?

Re: Maybe a Step \'Backwards\', But Handy?

I built another version of this. I hard connected the quick attach cylinder and put a valve on the line to it on the right side of the PT422. I put tees in the lines to connect the attachment cylinder. It seems to work pretty well. If the valve is open and there is no attachment then the quick attach cylinder operates. If the valve is closed and there is an attachment connected, then the attachment cylinder operates. If you open the valve with an attachment connected, you can get both cylinders to operate, although one will usually operate first.

See attached picture of wide view.

Re: Maybe a Step \'Backwards\', But Handy?

I ended up use a 600 PSI rated valve from Northern. Will this be sufficient? Sounds kinda of weak.

Re: Maybe a Step \'Backwards\', But Handy?

That selector valve should be rated to at least 2500 psi.

OK. Thanks for the information. Per your suggestion, I ordered one.

Re: Maybe a Step \'Backwards\', But Handy?

Thanks for the pictures. This is exactly what I had in mind, except that I would have put a valve on each side.

Obviously, only one is needed. Does it matter which side?

Thanks!

It should not matter which side. I have not tested both sides but either should work. A few comments. I originally had the left side quick connect fitting pointing straight up (just like the right). This put less slack in the left attachment hose than I like. So, I added the 90 degree turn and pointed it forward. I mowed for about 1 hour today and changed attachments twice. Everything worked fine. I will change out the 600 PSI valve when the new one arrives. Also make sure the left connection clears where the PTO hose is when it is connected.

My thanks to you for getting me to think about doing this again. I have considered doing something for several years, but just was not quite motivated and not quite certain what to do. This is very simple and easy to do. Of course there are other ways and maybe somebody will find a better way. One way that might be better (as suggested by Clint Blake) is to put both quick connections and the valve on the right side. This puts everything in one location and most attachments have the hoses coming from that side.

Bob, you're a genius! I'd had a variety of ideas, but they were all complicated and expensive. Your simple, cheap solution should do all I really need. Thanks for the photos!
