Why fit a used pump.

I'm not recommending anything. I just supplied a parts source. In fact, does he even need a pump or just a cylinder and piston and whatever else broke?

Do you have any thoughts on what caused that type of damage?

G'day airbiscuit.
To allow me to offer an opinion I would like to see photo's of the pump before and after it has been removed,But at this point I would add that I have only seen a lift ram arm broken once and it was caused by having material on the linkage that was way to heavy, the tractor was being used to transport large round bales of fodder, the owner of the tractor in his wisdom had made a twin fork bale carrier capable of carrying two bales at once not so much the weight (approx 1000kg) but the bounce that picked up as the tractor was travelling along the bumpy track ,so this is possible, another thought is a faulty casting (need to see a good picture) or possibly a faulty, wrong part or malfunctioning relief valve.
Regards.

My speculation about the damage was pushing a rear blade in reverse that caught a rock or a stump. pulling a box blade that caught a rock or stump, or pulling/jerking on a chain that was attached to a drawbar across the 3 point arms.

Ill drain the oil and take photos of the pump. I did test the pump for flow through the pipe on the top cover in earlier post before all the damage was found. I hope the it will be in good shape. How is the hydraulic pressure released from this system? Is there limits that are set for travel of the rock shaft?

I have experienced such damage on a MF 240 loader and backblade on site work in town. Both MF240 tractors (earthworks company) broke the rockshaft cam due to repeated bouncing and crashing down on the hydraulics when driving between jobs. Hamilton new zealand has rough roads. In both case they had 4-4500 hours AND the top link had a device that locked out the draft linkage so when the heavy backblade bounced you could feel the shock-load passing into the tractor.

I was able to get the rock shaft freed today. It took alot of beating but is now out. It seems like the the bearing surface inside the lift cover was seized on the Rock shaft.
I will attach pictures.
Can you tell me if the rock shaft pictured should have a machined surface. The non splined parts seem pitted. Im not sure if this can be cleaned, greased, and reinstalled after new bearing surfaces are replaced.

There are supposed to be large O rings on the outside of the shaft ,between the lift arm and the cover this stops moisture getting into the gearbox and in your case destroying the shaft.
Yes the bearing surfaces are machine finished and looking at the pictures it looks like the shaft is below the original dimensions ,I would replace the shaft, bushes and O rings either find a good used shaft or a new one, when installing the shaft use plenty of grease this will help keep moisture out if any.
The tractor has a Mark three pump ( the latest pump in the two hundred series tractor).
I would at this stage remove the hydraulic filter, drain ,clean and flush the transmission housing, with the filter removed, don't forget to fit the large O ring when installing the filter.
You may consider that the damage was caused by a stuck or sticking relief valve in this case I would replace it just to be sure I would not feel good if you assembled the tractor and blew the thing to bits.
Keep us posted .
