Just another thought ,do the hydraulic levers move freely and independently ,do they move the full length of travel ,if not this would be a good time to remove the quadrant assembly and free everything up again use plenty of grease when assembling( the quadrant is secured to the housing with a countersunk head allen screw, remove it and gently work the assembly out use plenty of crc or your favourite get stuff out fluid.

Well... I'm still working on getting the parts together. I wanted to update and ask a few questions regarding parts. I think I have located a complete lift cover from another MF 230. Its pricey
but the parts in my cover continue to add up.

In a previous post you mentioned replacing the pressure relief valve. when I look up this part I see two options ;
I'm not sure about what one I need.

Massey Ferguson Tractor Relief Safety Valve - 884747M93 - 884747M93 Massey Ferguson Hydraulic Pump PartsRelief safety valve operates in the 2700 to 3200 lbs area for models 135, 150, 165, 175, 180, 230, 235, 240,

Massey Ferguson Tractor Relief Safety Valve - 883402M93 - 883402M93 Massey Ferguson Hydraulic Pump PartsRelief safety valve operates in the 2500 to 3000 lbs area for models TO35, 50, 65, 135, 150, 165, 175, 180, 230, 240, 245, 250, 2640, 2675, 2705, 2745, 2775 &

Second question is regarding oil options for the hydraulics and the power steering. The manual list Massey Ferguson Permatran oil for both. Id like to know if I can use oil that can be found locally what type of standards do I need to look for? Is the same oil that is used in the transmission used in the steering pump / cylinder ?

Links to oils that I have found locally. I just don't understand the oil standards and requirements. I will need 8+ gallons
Hydraulic Oil AW32
Traveller Premium Universal Tractor Trans/Hydraulic Fluid - For Life Out Here
Traveller All Season Hydraulic Oil ISO 46, 5 gal. - For Life Out Here

Thanks for the continued help.

G'day Rc1700.
The relief valve,I would use the 883402M93 valve make sure the O ring is fitted to the stem of the valve ( the threaded seat )

In the power steering use ATF, Dexron or whichever power steering fluid you can buy locally.
The transmission oil is nothing special, Engine oil was used in Massey tractors thoughout ,engine and transmission until Multipower came along, I would use whichever your local tractor oil supplier recommends, the only difference is the multipower where there is a specific type of oil .
Consider that for instance Caterpillar used 30 weight engine oil in the engine ,transmission and final drives in their earthmoving equipment for a long time.
Regards.

I got my replacment cover in today. Hopfully all will be well and i can get her up and running soon.
I was pleased to see i got a little bonus. The lid has hydro hoses connected where the pump stand pipe comes up. It has a diverter valve connected to that. I assume there will be more parts needed to get a set of remotes running. 20170329_061224.jpg20170329_061250.jpg

I'll need some insight as to how to best get the hydraulic remote to work and what will be needed:confused2:

That looks like it may be a JIC adapter. With that setup like it is now, you can hook a single acting cylinder to it with a JIC hose (see http://www.surpluscenter.com/images/techhelp/JIC.pdf to identify the fitting size), then a JIC to NPT adapter and a NPT quick connect.
For reference, that is probbaly a selector valve such as 3/8" NPT 2 GPM PRINCE SELECTOR VALVE
If you want to use double acting cylinders, you will need to replace the valve with one like 1 SPOOL 2 GPM PRINCE RD-2575-T4-ESA1 DA OC VALVE and run two hoses from the valve to the quick connects.

Well....
I now have hydraulics on my Massey Ferguson 230.:cool2:
The replacement cover worked in the pump that was in the tractor seems to be functioning as it should.
I'm not sure about the adjustments or the draft control settings but at this point the hydraulics seemed to lift implements correctly when the draft control is all the way up, and the inside control lever is used to go up and down. At this point I have not completely filled the tractor with oil it is still below the lowest bolt in the side cover.
I was not sure if adjustments need to be made inside the side cover before I close it up.
I did review the manual but I'm not really clear on setting the draft control up as I don't fully understand it and many of the references discuss pressure control which it appears my tractor does not have.
